i have a question for anybody who can answer. i just complete my second semester of nursing school. unfortunately i didn't pass med-surg class. i ended up with a 79.2 and i needed a 80%. the reason why is this: as part of my study technique i would study the questions at the end of the chapter, but i was so unlucky as to get stuck with a book that had wrong answers in the answer key. only a few students had these wrong books. on our 6th test there were two questions that were exactly the same as in the book. so i answered them wrong. our teacher failed to go over this test because of time constraints. so when the final came up, those exact same questions came up again and i answered them wrong again. then it discovered that i had a book with wrong answer key. so i brought this to the attention of my teacher with a copy of another book borrowed from a classmate for comparison. my teacher decided to give me the points for the 2 questions on the 6th test but not on the final which would have put me over 80. my contention is that if she would have went over the 6th test i never would have answered the same questions wrong again. is this ineffective teaching?? is there any legal recourse? any help would be greatly appreciated. also should the publisher be liable for there typos?

I don't think it is ineffective teaching not to review an exam unless you asked to see yours and she refused. Where I'm puzzled is that she accepted the wrong answers for one test but not the other.

They are going to say that it is your responsibility and rightly so to figure out if things aren't correct and if I read correctly they will probably add that you missed passing by 4 questions not just 2. If you can't politely get her to reconsider I'd let it go because you really don't want to burn bridges if you are going to re-apply. This is a bummer and I hope she will reconsider.

First of all--please understand that I feel for you-- Hopefully you will try again. If you do, I hope you will change your study habits a little. I am no expert, but I do know that you cannot get through nursing school by memorizing the answers to questions. The questions on nursing exams are leveled, and they become increasingly difficult as you progress through a program. The lowest level is knowledge--or memorization... and you won't get very far if you don't develop the ability critically think through the information and then select a right answer based upon your analysis. The highest level questions are at the analysis or synthesis level.

You can't blame the publisher--it is annoying to find inconsistencies, but not to the point of litigation.

I imagine your instructor gave you the points back the first time because she was cutting you some slack--but she expected learning to take place. If you work to understand the material--and QUESTION everything--even publishers-- you will be a much stronger nurse for it. I will get off my soapbox now and wish you good luck-- never give up!

I don't see the rational in giving u credit, later, for the 2 on the 6th test, but not on the final. I believe you didn't realize you got the 2 questions wrong on the 6th test,till after the final, right?
