I read that the Nclex was a national test so that when you pass it, it will not matter what state you move to work.

Here is my question:

I was looking up job posting on the web, and some hospital for criteria say:

Current Minnesota RN license...

what does that mean?

Means you need to be licensed in the state on MN. You can take the NCLEX anywhere but in most states you have to hold a license in that state to work. All you have to do is apply, pay the fee, and prove graduation from a school of nursing and passing of the NCLEX.

As TazziRN states, there are rules and requirements for RN licensure.

As best as I understand it:

First one must complete an RN educatin at an accredited school in order to register to sit for NCLEX-RN.

Second, in order to register for NCLEX-RN one must also register at a particular state for licensure and pay fee to both the testing center and to the state.

Thirdly, upon successful NCLEX testing the person waits for the results to be sent from the test center to the state who will then send the license to the person.

I am surprised they didn't tell you this in nursing school yet.

edit to add: Also, as TazziRN mentions, once you have your license in one state, you can apply for licensure in another state. It is another process which involves time and money and patience.
