More sick calls on Superbowl Sunday? (Why was I not surprised to get a call?)

Did anyone else get a call to fill in for a sick call today? Why was I not surprised?

Answer: Certain people seem to get sick conveniently at certain times.

I ignored the call and went back to sleep.

*sigh*

I'm surprised your unit gets call outs on a weekend. We have to make them up at the convience of the unit and it's never in your best interest.

I'm working...willingly... Was never a football fan, and I just dread having to go to someone else's house for a party and to watch the game.

Also, today is 2nd anniversary of Dad's death, so if I can do something productive to keep my mind busy, I'll do whatever it takes.

It wasn't my unit that I got the call to fill in for, it was Med/Surg, according to the voice mail. It's probably a certain nurse who has a convenient vague stomach ailment that comes and goes at a drop of a hat. That's my guess.

That sounds like a good idea, to make people make up their weekends that they call in sick for. Keeps people honest.

Hi, Kylee45,

My sympathies with the loss of your dad. I lost my dad a year and a half ago--didn't think it would still be so painful.

Good for you for working today!

The unit I am traveling to had a lot of requests for this weekend off - the unit manager is working tonight and asked me if I wanted to -

I am taking a week off...... Sorry!

Caller ID works great for this. If it's my day off and I see that the hospital is calling I know not to pick it up and listen to the message. If it's a true emergency and they need extra people I'm always willing to come in and help. But to fill in for someone else that called in........ me thinks not.
