Talking I need help from professional nurses!

Hello
I'm a first year student nurse in Douglas College BC, Canada.
We were given an assignment to look for an online nurse to correspond with over the course of my program.
I'm very interested in hearing about your experinces from the hospital and the most challenging and exciting situations that you've experienced.
I really need your help. It would really mean a lot to me if you could help me. You can e-mail me at sweet_pinay_forever@yahoo.com.

Thanks so much, hope to hear from you soon...

Welcome to Allnurses.com, Carolyn!

I wish you well in your nursing endeavors, and hope you never regret your choice to become a nurse. I love being a nurse myself, and have had many wonderful experiences as a nurse. I am not so sure today's nursing would have allotted me as many good experiences that I had in years past, but I'm about ready to jump back into nursing with both feet.......sink or swim.

I think it would be better for you to converse with a nurse who is active in nursing right now, so hopefully they will email you with their stories pertaining to their nursing experiences.

Have a great day now!

And I have been a nurse for nearly 20 years, in ER and home health, and I think you've chosen a wonderful profession......not all of us believe as the above poster does.

I have participated in these online interviews with past students from Douglas, and I would be happy to participate again, I thought it was fun!

Re: I need help from professional nurses!

I hear the new grads stating how they are unsure if they made the right choice being a nurse. They are overwhelmed by the difference between school and actually working as a nurse and I can totally relate to where they are coming from. I've been a nurse for over 20 years now and I absolutely love it and feel very competent.
What always amazes me and also irritates me is the nurses like DivineMartha that do not encourage new nurses or students when they say "get out while you still have time". That is not being supportive or encouraging at all. I can understand the new grads or nurses that have been in the profession for less than 5 years or so because it is such a reality shock however I cannot and never will understand why someone who has practiced nursing for over 30 years making a statement like that. I would think anyone in their right mind would find another profession if they feel that way about their job. There is no explanation for feeling that way about your job or anything else in your life. If something makes you that uphappy for that long in your life it is time to make a change. I guess some people just play the martyr role to the extreme.
