One of my pet peeves is lazy nurses! They are nearly useless! They sit and gossip half the night and complain about their patients are pressing the call light. Some making so much money per hour it's sickening. All ages.... mostly younger ones... alot of agency nurses! Just my opinion. No, just the nurse I had to work with the other night!

Sorry.... I know of many young nurses that are hard workers... that don't act like the world owes them something, or they are spoiled brats. And YES, I know alot of hard working agency nurses that get crapped on.

But goodness, this young thing the other night we had was something else!

I just have no patience (or use) for a lazy nurse... for as much as they pay us we should put in the work to earn it.

It P....s me off when I have Drs berating me for Pathology that hasnt been attended to even though ordered weeks ago.Dr on holidays and locum covering.Gp just returned from holidays.Hello I dont have the time to go searching through charts for path requests that have been secreted away for whatever reason I dont know.Suggested Gp speak to Charge Rn and follow up with written complaint to facility director if feels that issue isnt resolved through this avenue.Just something thats happened that has made me really upset as there was another issue with another patient of this docs the day before.Lazy nurses dont belong to just one particular group.At the moment I have no solution.Except panadol.

What is panadol? Does it help you deal with trying to attend to your patients, doctors, administration and the CNAs telling you to do their work and then report you? This teamwork stinks. It is curious most of the time they are not around, going to the cafeteria getting their lunch, not checking out and talking with their friends, bring the lunch back to the break room, then when they decide they can all get together, they punch out, then in a half hour punch back in again and go on with "lunchtime." Management sure won't deal with them. These cliques are stronger than management. Management stands up for them saying, you don't see them because they are doing their work. What the *&^%?

well, they are just like that..nothing will change except that they will embrace the profession w/ dedication rather than waiting for money...and gossips...duh..!!..

Nurse in questioin was an agency nurse....just tell the powers that be how lazy she was and they can request she not come back to your facility. Much easier to get rid of the travelers and agency nurses than those union ones who have been sitting on their axxex for years and aren't about to change their ways.

Oh Larry you nut! You must be familiar with a monster medical facility that starts with a "K" eh? One point of contention regarding us "rent a scrubs"... yes it probably is easier to "get rid" of us over lazy union workers, but PULEEZE let staffing know it is the individual nurse who didn't work out as opposed to the agency personnel in general.

I have seen good agencies lose great contracts because 1 bad apple tainted the entire crop. Another point of view... I am always astonished that some nurses are able to be so blatant about not doing anything for their patients, instead you see them most of the shift chatting it up in the nurses station, on their cell phones etc. Once I asked a lazy nurse (long time staffer) how she got away with it, her reply... "I chart like crazy, medical review assumes that I did all these things for the patient, or that I actually spent any time with them at all!". She found it very amusing. I didn't since it was ME that day answering her patients call lites. Grrrrrh

I usually just point out to them that their patients need them. If they just blow it off, I ask if maybe the unit manager would like to answer their call lights? I can call her/him for them and yes 24/7.
No not all agency people are bad nor are all travelers bad, its the few that stick in your mind. If your unit is understaffed it is for a reason...bad region, bad unit, bad facility, difficult staff to work with. So stop complaining and help to fix the problem.

One way to deal with this problem is to comfront the nurse head on. Do your other co-workers feel this way? If so you all should get together, and address the issue with said nurse. After all this is neglect. The point should be made clear, if she/he can't care for assigned patients, nursing is not for him/her. Document the conversation, and who was there. If it continues to be a problem, start up your chain of command.
