Hospital Positions for CNA's

I just need a little advice. I just got my CNA certification (Indiana) and have applied to several of the hospitals in my area almost 2 weeks ago. They have open positions on their websites but I haven't got any response, not even negative!

Sooo, the real question is, should I simmer down? Am I expecting something I shouldn't? I don't want to work in a nursing home when what I really want is hospital. How did everyone else get into it?

My "plan of action" was to get a hospital position, and grow with them as my education does. Getting tuition reimbursement was a big plan, too. I start school in August (Yeah!) I know I want to be a pediatric nurse.

I feel maybe I'm stupid for thinking a hospital would love to have me, since I'm not getting any call backs. I have done hair for 10 years, have had excellent references & attendence. I have to start somewhere. I'm pretty passionate about my CNA certification, and I know I am good at it, it's just getting through HR, I guess....

Re: Hospital Positions for CNA's

If you don't know the name of the unit hiring manager, call the hospital and ask for the department where you want to work. Ask whomever answers for the charge nurse (or boss or whatever the appropriate term is). That person probably hasn't even received your paperwork from the black hole known as HR into which your application vanished. Briefly explain that you've applied for a position that you're qualified for and was wondering if the hiring manager could check with HR about your paperwork.

Good luck.

keep at it. it took me 3 years before i got hired in a hospital. speak to the HR manager, be persistant!!! i chose to work in nursing homes until then. sometimes, you have to do what you have to do in order to get the desired experience.

Best of luck!!!

Re: Hospital Positions for CNA's

It took my current employer a month before they called me for an interview. Recently, I applied to a hospital in Indy and it took 3 weeks for them to call me. Try calling human resources and checking on your application. Actually, I would highly recommend that. I missed an OB position because I didn't call. When I did, it turned out that they didn't receive my application.

Good luck!
