So, yeah. You could get into my school with a 2.0 GPA, as long as you had good grades in your prereqs! They do take points away if you retook the course to make it fair, and it's a letter grade for every time you took it again. For example, if you got an F in algebra the first time, but a B the second time, you would get 2 points: 3pts for the B, minus 1 since you took it twice. They add all of your points up and rank you top to bottom, and accept the top 190 or whatever. The very top ones get into the accelerated program. There is no waiting list: if you don't get in you just don't get in, you have to reapply the next year. Make sense?
Good luck!

I know of many nursing programs that will not even consider you unless you have a GPA of 3.5 or better. The waiting lists are incredible. One of the community colleges near me had 138 students enter last September and there were only 45 left by the end of the year. This is a community college and they expect their students to maintain a 3.8 GPA. If you fall below that you have to repeat your classes. And, this is a school that only offers an Associates Degree!

Can someone give me an honest answer/opinion about the RN program offered at Maric College. I've heard good and bad from that school. Mostly bad. I heard Maric College students are the least likely to be hired. I want the truth. Anyone who has been there please respond to this. Deadline for applying is coming up soon. I've taken the MA program at Maric and I feel like somehow I've made a mistake but I'm not sure whether RN program will turn out the same way. I can't afford a 60k mistake. Right now Im not too worried about the schooling...I'm more worried about Maric's reputation and if what my friend said about maric students not being hired is true .

I am way up north in the Finger Lakes Region. I don't know how far you want to travel but NYS is loaded with fantastic schools for nursing. Check out this web-site for some help:
http://www.allnursingschools.com/find/
Are you going to stay on campus or stay home and commute? Because if you are willing to go away to school another option is NJ. There are several great school there also.
I hope this helps.

Hi,
Here is a really good thread on Maric http://allnurses.com/forums/f137/tho...=Maric+College
I am currently going studying my LVN at a different school, but went to get information about their RN program. For me it's a no go. If you have completed prerequisites or any other classes, they don't want to accept you saying they want to start with fresh students. Also their credits don't transfer to any four year college, because they are not appropriately accredited. Okay if you want to stop at ADN, sucks if you want to go on. Their program for ADN also ranges bettween 27 and 36 months. 27 IF they decide to accept your credits.
If you are looking for a California no wait list option, look into National, they have no problem accepting prior credit and their generic BSN program is 36 months, shorter if you have prior college work. Not to mention you will have a BSN. National also has their prices clearly listed in their catalog. Plus their BSN program could be a lot cheaper if you take some classes at CC. I was told about $21,000. Not cheap, but better than Maric.
I think another issue with many Vocational Colleges, not just Maric is that many students fail to prepare themselves. Many occasions, nursing core course are impacted into such a short amount of time that students expect to have a complete understanding, that the school is going to teach them everything they need to know. That's not the case, they don't have that kind of time. They give you the base to build on, so these schools require much more personal study time. What I have noticed in unsuccessful graduates of all kinds of votechs is that they haven't prepared themselves and when they enter a new grad program at a hospital, they are found lacking. This doesn't only happen at Maric, it's happened at my school as well. There is a level of personal responsibility.

hi! well u posted a while ago, but if your still looking for a nursing school to apply to, and since it seems that the nursing schools in the US are so competitive, how about applying somewhere abroad?
i just graduated from the American University of Beirut in lebanon, i know you must be thinking i must be crazy to suggest this since we just had a mini war and parts of lebanon were devasted but overall lebanon is doing quiet well and is stable now and many americans such as myself LOVE living here. plus the American University of Beirut would definelty accept you and furthermore, the nursing school here has a VERY good reputation and has been opened for 100 yrs. it is also accredited with the New York education department so you wont have problems with NCLEX at all.
also youll have lots of fun while studying since beirut is definelty a hot spot for great fun like going to the beach skiing and clubbing! i worked really hard in the nursing school here its really tough. but worth it! so just a thouhgt, why dont you explore options abroad? anyway good luck and all!

When I took the CNA course at my local community college, I spoke with our nursing director and she told a group of us that you need to have an A in A&P or they wont look at you app. The information that the school hand out say minimum 2.5, however there where 760 applicants for only 40 slots, so they are very critial. The school does offer several informational meetings throughout the year. The schools your applying to, check on their websites in their nursing deportments and if they have informational meetings for you to attend. Personally if you can relocate I would apply to every school that you can. I dont know how bad it is the rest of the country, but the three schools I applied to where 1500, for 100 slots, 760 app to 40 slots and 850 app. for 50 slots.
