Oh how awful. You are truly a strong woman to have done that for your mare. That shows how much you love her, and I'm sure on some level she understood. I'm very sad for you and your family.
big hugs to you and your family
this is just horrible, very sad
you are a WONDERFUL person and have done so much more than so many others would have done....
i grew up with horses(although we only had one give birth and i guess everything went fine-i was i kid then)and after i had moved away my mom and dad kept them in the pasture(farm area) and checked/fed them daily. i remember her calling me to tell me when our "sonny" died. she was so upset. she had driven to the pasture and seen him standing by the tank. he was really old(for a horse-can't remember exactly but he was past 30 which is very unusual).also, this horse had foundered way back when he was young. he had originally been my dads horse. when he foundered, my mom took him as her own, walked him daily in the creek, etc.. he got over it completely and was able to run and everthing. the vet had said he never would. anyways, she drove on down to the bottom of the pasture to take care of some things and was there for several hours. when she came back, he was dead. she did at least feel good that he had not suffered. he had gone quickly. prior to this, our shetland had died at the pasture while noone was there and she said she saw marks in the dirt that he had made while laying there. she was so sick that she was not there. you can only do the best you can. i guess i got my love for animals from my mom. once, n my hamster quit eating and was losing weight. she took it to the vet. they said it's teeth had grown too long. she said even though she thought the vet was a jerk to her she felt he was a good doc. she said she sat and cried while they filed the teeth down. after that, she said the vet and assistant treated her nicer--like they thought they better-she must be crazy.
I wanted you update all you fine people. Khaia is still alive, still hasn't passed the afterbirth and I am calling the vet this am. But the good news is that she is passing stool, urinating, and eatting. If we can just get her cleaned out , and she doesn't get an infection, I think she'll live. I have hope for the first time in days...Cat
