Angry Grey's Anatomy Premier!!! + How to contact show creators

Oh my god! I haven't posted in a long time, but I just had to post again. I'm watching the premier of Grey's Anatomy -- any of you see this?? (new show on ABC)

The Doctor, after being questioned by a nurse says, "I'm just a resident, but you take 4 years of medical school, and let me know if I'm right." (Did I quote it right?)

Then, as he walks away he says, "I hate nurses."

Then, he walks up to a female resident and mistakenly calls her a nurse and she responds, with anger and indignation, "Did you just call me a nurse?" As though it were a racial slur!

I mean, nurses have historically been marginalized in many mass media outlets, but this is amazing!!

I knew the minute I heard those words on the show that I'd be reading about it here! I couldn't believe it! First show and they're going to be inundated with emails from coast to coast full of negative comments.

Wonder who the brains behind the writing team are?

Argh!

I saw it, too! I could NOT believe it. ABC will be getting a letter from me. I am a student and we have been told from day one to never let ANYONE speak to us that way in the work environment.
I am so disappointed...I was hoping that nurses would portrayed differently in this one

I must say I only caught the last 20 mins and I love it. After I get my BS in nursing I am going to medical school. It has always been a dream of mine. That show made me realize that everything I do and all the courses I take is for that goal. Just the thought that can be me...

WHAT brains??!! If that's the kind of dialogue they wrote for the premiere, I'd hate to see what they've got planned for later in the season........then again, if there's any justice the show will bomb and they'll have to go back to the drawing board for new ideas.

In fact, I've got one: How about a show featuring nurses that a) depicts them as intelligent professional people, b) includes male nurses, and c) leaves ALL the stereotypes on the cutting-room floor?

I used the term "brains" lightly.

Hi Everyone:

I too could not believe my eyes and ears when I saw that scene. What were they thinking? I can't believe in the year 2005, the false negative stereotypes of nurses are still being perpetuated. I also can't believe that ABC managed to alienate 2.5 million people in the first 30 minutes of their show. I immediately sent an email ABC. They insist in glorifying housewives that lie and cheat, but insult nurses. That does not make any sense.

Don't forget the comment by the teenaged patient implying nurses are clueless (when the intern was lost) or the idea that the nurse would page the doctor 911 because the patient was bored.
I bet the Center for Nursing Advocacy will be all over this one with a letter writing campaign. YOu can bet your booty I'll be participating in that one. HOw disgusting!
