Good credit get hired at hospital?

Hi I was just wondering if when you are interviewing at a hospital do they want you to have good credit or do they not want to hire someone who has bad credit. Anyone have experience with this? Isnt that why someone want to get a job to pay they credit off after years of school? Anyone been turned down because of bad credit?
I know my sister applied at a bank and they turned her down because of her bad credit.

Re: Good credit get hired at hospital?

Hi lizzyette,

The hospital I work for contracts with a company that does extensive background checks, including credit checks. I had terrible credit (divorce etc.) and was afraid I wouldn't be hired - but I was. Whew!

Good luck.

I was told by my nurse manager, that they don't look at the credit score. The pull your credit report to see if you were telling the truth about where you have lived, worked, etc.

No, they shouldn't even be checking your credit if you aren't working with money directly.

Your sister WAS though. I think they assume that if you have credit problems, you don't know how to manage money or that perhaps one would steal to pay back their debt or something like that.

I think it's wrong to do that for whatever reason. There are lots of different reasons why people have problem credit.

So, no, they shouldn't be doing a credit check for a nursing position.

I think that is an invasion of privacy. If they want to know where you have lived, that's what the background check is for and they can call the jobs to see where you worked.

All the jobs I worked are not even on my credit report. As a matter of fact, it says I worked at a hospital I never worked at.

Re: Good credit get hired at hospital?

It doesn't seem logical to pull your credit report to verify address, employers, etc. I know on my credit reports, my employer hasn't been updated since my first high school job, and somehow one time, one credit card got incorrect address info (don't know how) and reported it, so on one of the three reports, I'm listed as living in Minnesota for a while. I've tried updating/fixing these things but they never seem to change.

Because I'm a military wife, I have worked several places in different states. For the last 15 years, a credit report consent was part of each of my jobs.

They did it in 2 hospitals I have interviewed for. It is invasion of privacy, that's why I had to sign an agreement paper. They can't do it without my consent.

it has been a req. to allow them a check but i think it is wrong and shouldn't be .i find it an invasion of my privacy and has nothing to do with the job we do.

Re: Good credit get hired at hospital?

I think its pretty much a standard anymore no matter where you work. Several friends that I have had over the years that worked in human resources have told me that just because the waiver to check your credit is signed, it does not necessarily mean that it is checked.
