No one WANTS to? since when do we have a choice - if they want the help on nights they would do well to orient her. sheesh... they will have to orient YOU to the night shift routine so what's the difference? Weird.

As to staying awake, a 4 hr nap before your 1st night shift helps, if you can get it. I used to stay up for 4 hrs after my shift to wind down and slept from 12-8 ish, again, when I could; it's hard to be consistent!

Good luck TigerGalLE! It's not so bad.

How to survive night shift? A healthy dose of Ambien or similar after getting off work. (Not medical advice, just teasing, although I am on it) I usually wake up around 1-2pm and since I'm a total night owl, the shift doesn't start wearing on me til around 5am...then I drag, but try to get everything ready for 6am med pass and accu checks/insulins etc. Also charting, even though proof reading what I wrote makes my eyes gritty, LOL.

Good luck!

Blessings, Michelle
