Anyone have any others to share????? [/quote]
I was working 3-11, one other RN, on med surg. We were standing at the desk and my patients family came out to say that they didn't think Dad was breathing. The other nurse and I sent the visitors out and pulled the curtains. I stood on one side, she on the other. I was using my stethoscope listening for lung sounds and I assumed she was planning to feel for a carotid pulse. All of a sudden, she turned his head towards me ( I was bending over, inches from his face) and pulled down on his chin. In her best ventriloquist voice, she said, "hello". Unfortunately, it was my patient and I had to try to tell the loved ones that Dad had indeed ceased to breathe without losing my composure. When I got to the charting room I laughed till I PIMP!

I'm glad this didn't happen to me, but a nurse where I worked told me about her first day at the hospital. She was very nervous, but felt she had handled herself very well so far. During the lunch break she went to the bathroom which was in the hall near the nurse's station. After, she left and walked down the hall to check on her patients , she got half-way down the hall and saw a long line of TP going all the way back to the bathroom (The end of the TP roll had caught in her uniform).

A couple of months ago I was making a patient visit at a facility. I had walked up to the front of the unit to speak to the nurse. All of the residents were gathering at the entrance to go to the dining room. As I stood at the med cart speaking with the nurse I did not notice on of the residents had scooted right up behind me in his wheelchair. I took a step backward to turn and walk away, lost my balance and ended right in this guys lap. Everyone was just cracking up. This little old fellar right along with them. I then extracted my self, in the process I knock his prosethetic leg loose and hastily made my departure.

I think as nurses we have a morbid sense of humor that helps us deal with stressful situations. It makes horrible situations easier to cope with.

So true........It is difficult for others to understand sometimes, but all I can say is it must be a coping mechanism..... I have been laughing for 5 minutes after reading the post by gr8rnpjt
