Frustrated with other nurses at work

I am getting really annoyed with certain nurses who have been extremely stand offish and unwelcoming to me in a very obvious way. I barely know these other RNs being that I just started working on this unit. The other thing that annoys me even more is that one of them is also new to the unit but kisses up to the other RNs just begging for a pat on the back and she is the absolute worst with constantly giving me rude looks and asking me intrusive questions as if she has any room to talk down to me as a fellow newbie. What is the best way to approach this?

Dont let them see that it bothers you. You dont have to answer any personal questions, who the hell are they? Do your job and only communicate when its work related. Just like in school they'll see that your not affected and cut it out.

Keep things professional ... just remember you are there to work not to make friends. If you do happen to make friends with your co-workers, great. But, if you don't become friends with your co-workers, that is okay too. It is their problem not yours. You won't get along with everyone in the world. The best advice is to keep things neutral and professional.

Good luck ... I know what it is like to work with unwelcoming individuals too ...

What you perceive as 'stand-offish' may simply be them self-absorbed in their own work and a gazillion things that need to be done...

Just a thought.

Just do ur thing and MYOB. New nurses who try to hard to fit in are not concentrating on the right thing. Keep focused on why u r there and be nice, ask questions and be sociable when appropriate. Work friends and such will come. New hires are treated poorly by some, it makes them feel powerful. They r just insecure and do it to boost their self image. It will die down if u ignore it. Do not take it to heart, remember it so when someone else is new, you will not carry on their tradition! Good Luck!

You gotta learn to play well with others and how to fit in or you're going to miserable like this from now on. It begins with you.

No, I'm not talking about sucking up or kissing butt.

Good luck.

It might take time, give it time. Yes, there are annoying people at work who act like they are in highschool. There is often a pecking order and a lot of social posturing. If your need to be accepted by the group is strong, and they don't accept you, it might make you miserable. If you are able to remain detached and be patient, you will eventually fit in when you get to know them better.

Some units have more mature dynamics than others, it might be that this one just isn't a good fit. Time will tell.

Instead of worrying about what other people are "doing or saying" why not start using those nurses as resources. Also the "suck up nurse" is that her personality? Why worry so much about someone else....You are there for the patient!!
