Unhappy Flunked!!!

I posted this question on Tennessee nurses and I have not gotten any responces yet. My friend flunked out of Lowengerg School of Nursing in Memphis Tennessee. She is wondering if anyone know of any and I mean any school that will accept her? She applied to Union University and was immediately denied. Her heart was torn up. Please help. She is more depressed that I am!!!!!

Re: Flunked!!!

I do not know the answer to your question, but wonder if your friend has contacted the other schools in Memphis. Could be if she made an appt with the Dean she could make a good impression, find out what it would take to get admitted and negotiate a probation period. These measures might make her appear more mature and ready to handle the stress of nursing school.

Re: Flunked!!!

Is she looking specifically for a Masters program? If so, the closest in TN from Memphis would probably be Vandy in Nashville.

Re: Flunked!!!

The other option would be to enroll in another school and just start over, but that's not an option for many because of the costs.

Re: Flunked!!!

Yep, don't know of any schools that will accept work done at another college of nursing since all programs are set up differently. Her best bet would be to work with the Dean of Nursing at the college she flunked out at. Sometimes they can be quite helpful.

Where I go to school in NC if you flunk out you can reapply the next year but you are only excepted twice into the program if you flunk out a third you are on your own

Re: Flunked!!!

I believe around here you have to wait 2-3 years before applying to any school. Hopefully things will work out for her. Good luck!

Re: Flunked!!!

wow I find some of these situations harsh. I live in a different state. I personally know of a student who failed the first semester of nursing - over Phamacology. Got a 79.5. Another University was more than happy to accept her Principles, Assessment, and all pre-req's she had. This same student approached her Dean of Nursing, and inquired about starting the LPN program. They were VERY helpful. She did jump into an LPN program. She will articulate when she completes that. Don't ever give up hope.

Re: Flunked!!!

About online, unless she is a nurse already, I don't believe that's an option.

About the op's friend applying to Union, Union is a far more competitive environment than Loewenberg. It is beyond fast track (59 hours in 11 months). Not only does it regularly accept the best and the brightest from the Memphis area, it will deny admission on all kinds of bases (like, you won't give up your part-time job, you say you want to go "part-time", etc.)

Frankly, unless the BSN is the only option for the friend, I'd think one of the many good-quality RN schools would be the next step. I've heard that none of the BSN programs will take you once you failed completely out of another BSN program.

Then again, and I mean this in the kindest way, maybe another career choice. I mean, I really love to sing but I'd starve if I tried singing for a living. Surely her skills will fit together well somewhere, and then the work will seem easy.

Best wishes.
