I work in a system that is tightly regulated by industrial awards, and there is not one male nurse administrator in the whole place - everyone from NUM to DON as well as nurse consultants and educators are female... I understand that men are disproportionately represented at administrative levels overall, but in this day and age of EEO and panel interviews and all the rest, I find it hard to believe that men could possibly be greasing palms to get ahead. Maybe the problem lies with the corrupt and ethically reprehensible healthcare corporations that overlook merit to focus on cost effectiveness (and dare I be so bold as to suggest that it isn't very cost effective to have a DON on maternity leave... I certainly don't agree with that position, but it's a reality).
