Extra pay for certification?

Where I work, I know that nurses don't get paid extra for having their CCRN (I work in ICU). They will reimburse us for the cost of the exam if we pass, though. I was just wondering if this is the norm? Do you know of places where the RNs get paid more for being certified?

Thanks!

Re: Extra pay for certification?

Depends on the facility. I am paid an extra $0.50 an hour for my certification.

4.00 an hr at mine. This makes it really worthwhile to be certified!

Re: Extra pay for certification?

There is extra pay for specialty certification at my hospital, in addition to reimbursement for the exam cost.

Re: Extra pay for certification?

Wow! $4/hr!!

I wonder how someone could get an employer to offer extra $ for certification?

(or would it be fruitless)....?

Well, there is a supposed nursing shortage you know. Pay them and they will come

Are you saying that employers dont feel that they have to 'try' very hard to get us, and thats why?

No, I am saying the opposite. If any employer wants their nurses to be certified, they need to lay out the bucks to attract us.

Re: Extra pay for certification?

None, but we do encourage certifications by paying for the review course and the test once. If you have your CCRN, it's easier for your clinical ladder progression, but not required. Now they don't help keep up with all the CEU's required though.
