expedited shift to shift report

We are currently doing a written report on a sheet that covers 24 hours and use the Kardex to get report. If we have questions we go to the station and ask the noc nurse (I work 8 hour days on an acute medical floor). The manager is trying to reduce all OT so she's thinking of a bedside report after getting info off the Kardex. This seems like you'd have to interface with three different nurses at times.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a quicker method? Thanks.

Re: expedited shift to shift report

We used to use the kardex system and taped report individually. The taped report gave good info and could be done on the nurses convenience within 1-2 hours before shift end. If they had sudden updates it would be noted and passed on. There was still opportunity for the oncoming shift to find the offcoming RN for any questions at the bedside. This reduced overtime significantly and report was quick as there would be essentially no interruptions.

Where I work we do the taped report and it works great. No overlapping of shifts, just hand over the tape and we are out of there on time, even the charge.
