ESR (Sed rate) Question

by KR

I am not that familiar with sed rate abnormalaties. I am 27 yo female and my CRNP checked mine along with some other bloodwork. Mine came back high at 56 (should be 0-20 for my age range). I called the office to talk to her, so I am awaiting return phone call in the next day or so. I have read up on sed rate, that it is a non specific test, and a lot of different things can cause it to be high. My question to all my fellow nurses, is what other blood work or tests would you want done if this was you? The only other thing that has come to my mind is to check a CRP level. Thanks in advance.
Kimberly, RN

You have your answer the esr is non-specific sign of inflammation/infection. The CRP is also non-specific and you must look for the cause. Start with your CBC and DIFF to find what kind of immune response you are experiencing. As this type of advice is not allowed on here Ill stop now.
