did you guys hear nusre sam ask abby if she could take her shift the next day, and dr. weaver said let somebody else do it, "we don't need our residents to be seen slinging bedpans." I am so ticked at that show right now I am about ready to write a letter. That was uncalled for and continues the impression that all that nurses do is take care of code browns. When are we going to get a show that treats the nurses like the professional that they are without the snarky comments?

Although the one time i saw a doctor assist a pt. with a bedpan, i wanted to look out the window to see if a fish would be riding by on a bicycle.

Actually, I have seen an MD handle a patient on the bedpan. Of course, they didn't empty it and clean it and the patient did have a lot of "old" money.

Helping someone onto a bedpan who can't get out of bed to use the toilet is perhaps the greatest honor you will ever have in this world. The rest (money, credentials, power) is all just smoke and mirrors. Cleaning someone up who has soiled themselves is the greatest act of kindness you will ever do. Shows like ER aren't real, so who cares how they portray anything?

When you see the truth, you will see that God has played a big joke on those who must elevate themselves to the status of emporer or die trying. If you can't see the incredible honor, dignity and power in being the person who provides perineal care to an incontinent patient--then you're in hell.

When they stop defibrillating patients who are in asystole, maybe they'll portray nurses in a better light.

The whole premise of Abby becoming a doctor because she's such a shining star as a nurse and is basically wasting her time being a nurse makes me sick to begin with... why not throw in some assanine comments as well?

Whoa, i didn't even catch that - if i did i would've turned it off! You are 100% correct in my books - in fact a show about nurses has been on my mind for a long while! There are so many nurses around the world - especially North America that would appreciate a television show portraying the real nursing world. Not the "yes dr" "what else do you need dr" crap !!!!

exactly and to clarify, i certainly don't have a problem with toileting anyone, i was a nursing assistant before then a health assistant at a school and i am a mom, also took care of my grandma in her end stage of cancer. What i have a problem with was the attitude displayed by the doctors toward the nurses. And yes i know it is a T.V. show, but i watch tv to unwind sometimes and enjoy a good storyline, i don't feel they need to give out backhanded insults to an entire profession, many of whom are faithful followers of the show! If the only thing nurses do is ADL's, then their schooling would be about 3 months not 2-4 yrs or more. I just wish they would for ONCE portray the nurses (not just abby who is a med student/nurse) as professionals
who have knowledge insight and more thatn just skills and following orders. Maybe I am not wording my frustrations correctly, does anyone else get what i am trying to say? i hope so!

Give me a break! You are just continuing the sterotype that nurses (mostly woman) should be joyfully running around performing "acts of kindness." Nevermind our education & professionalism. But it is okay for doctors (used to be mainly men) to demand respect and pay for their education and professionalism. Your attitude really bugs me! May you empty bedpans glore.
