Hi everyone! I just responded to a post earlier re: TCU, which was transitional care unit. We refer to our TCU as our Trauma Care Unit. These are Trauma ICU Stepdown pts. We are a LEvel II Trauma Center and deal heavily in it. I wanna know who else has Trauma Care Unit and what type pts you have in it. Ours are sometimes stable sometimes not, most are neurotrauma and orthotrauma postop. Some c vents, trachs, severe wounds etc. Just wanna know all your experiences and if you are familiar with this unit.

I work at a Level 1 Trauma Center. We don't have a "trama unit" per say, but our two surgical floors are trauma certified. However, they don't just get trauma pts, they get general surgical pts as well.

We get only trauma pts. They are c us til they go to the floor. We are a 24 bed unit. Thanks for your response. Interesting to see differences between hospitals!

we have a trauma stepdown at my hospital i kno mostly they get the pts that have been in the icu and are stable enough to go them....with this hospital being in the city they get alot of gun shot wounds, car accidents the regular trauma pts

I work in a Level I trauma hospital. The SICU takes trauma patients as well as surgical patients and the Surgical stepdown unit takes all surgical and trauma patients. At 8 beds, there is often not enough stepdown beds, so patients stay in ICU until one becomes available. I wish we had a 24 bed stepdown.
