Do you need a BSN to enter a MSN program if you have a BS in something else?

The questions pretty much says it all! If I have a BS in Psychology and obtain an ASN, can I apply right to a MSN program?

Thanks!

Rhonda

Re: Do you need a BSN to enter a MSN program if you have a BS in something else?

I hate to state the obvious ... but it really depends on the individual program. There are some programs that go right from ASN to MSN, usually with the BSN incorportated into it. However, not all MSN programs have that option. The ones that do take you from ASN to MSN are longer than the either ASN-BSN programs or BSN-MSN programs -- but are shorter than doing both programs separately.

You'll just have to check with the particular programs that interest you and learn their requirements.

You don't even need the ASN, there are 2nd degree programs that award an MSN if you have a Bachelor's degree in another field. Xavier University's MIDAS program is one.

Hey, I'm in the same situation. I have a B.S. in psychology and I'm starting an ASN program in January. I would check the admissions criteria for the program you are interested in applying to. I know the universities here in South Florida (FIU & FAU) both have bridge programs for students who have a bachelor's degree in another field. There are even CRNA Programs that have a bridge component. However, because of the competitive nature of CRNA Programs, I'll get the BSN before applying if I decide to got that route.

Good Luck!

What about a BA? I have a BA in Spanish, and it'd be nice to skip the BSN part kinda
