Worried - Delaware County Community College

Hi guys, I'm new to this board but love the wealth of info I've found here.

I am hoping to attend DCCC in the fall of 2008. Right now I'm in the admist of getting my criminal/child abuse background in and also studying for the NET.

I've been reading some previous threads about DCCC and many have commented that it's such a hard program to get in to. Just to clarify, are you referring to the NET itself? If you do pretty well on the NET and get your petition in before the priority deadline, are there any other challenges?

Thanks for answering my question!

Re: Delaware County Community College

Hello everyone!! I move a couple years ago from PA...I wish all of you success and my prayers are with you for school, home life, and ''your alone time". When we think we can't do it- it means we have to try harder...eventually all this studying will pay off. Best of luck to you all!!

Re: Delaware County Community College

I attended DCCC and graduated the nursing program in '05. If I recall they started the NET testing the year after I graduated, any alumni reading correct me if Im wrong.
DCCC program is very competitive and intense. I have to brag and tell you my class only lost 2 or 3 from the program and I think only one was a fail out. DCCC NCLEX pass rates were up there with the likes of Drexel and surpassed Villanova so that says something right there about the program. Of the 30 some students in my evening weekend class , of those who have sat for NCLEX, none failed. After having interviewed I was informed by one nurse recruiter that they love to hire DC grads, sometimes choosing them over a 4 year grad .
I wish you the best of luck , just remember when you do get in, study those NCLEX questions.

If there is one more thing I can tell you about nursing, your real education starts the first day you step on the floor as a new grad in your first position.

Well, even if you do well on the net--- they rank the scores, and take the top "scorers", so I think there is a possibility you could do well on the net, and still not get in--- so you may want to keep options open and look at other programs--- Neumann and Villanova's one year second degree BSN were my backups. It also depends on which program you want---The evening/weekend program--- they only take the top 30 students (again, all they look at is the net) and the day-- I believe it's the top 90 (I'm not positive about that number, but I think it's right--- I'm in the night program, so that's the number that was on my mind). Are you applying to evening or day--- I'm told the day is easier to get into. I wanted the night, but I was told I'd have a better chance if I put "prefer night, but will take day" on my application.

GOOD LUCK!!!!

Re: Delaware County Community College

I am actually really bummed right now. I think I did really badly on the NET. The sample exam on the Study Guide was not at all the same that was on the NET. The NET was extremely hard, and I lost track of time.

I'm really confident in my math score, but right now I'm just praying that I've gotten at least 70 on my reading so I can petition.

Re: Delaware County Community College

You may have done better than you thought. Can you take it again before the deadline (I remember last year it was the end of September, but maybe it's different this year?). Good luck!! I know some people who didn't get in looked at Harcum--- which might be another option, and someone else was doing Abington Hospital I believe. I hope you get in though!!!!! I know how stressful this is--- I was so stressed this time, last year.
