Its more of a matter of keeping YOUR cool, not really trying to 'cheer up the doc'. If they want to be an *ss, let them, but I refuse to let it ruin MY day.
We do have one baby-doc that gets away with abuse of some staff, but that staff member lets it happen. (This is going to make some of you very angry) The doc actually put his finger two inches from the nurses face and said "I want you to shut up NOW".

because he was dictating and couldn't hear himself think apparently. Even though a grievence was filed nothing happened-he continues to abuse certain staff in this way. I for one never take this kind of crap from any doc; baby-doc or ready to retire. They know this and resepect my assertiveness. My co-workers just stand slack-jawed at some of the things I have said to them when docs get pushy.

But I refuse to be spoken to like a child or as if I had no education. I'm not there just to wipe and turn patients! This baby-doc has not yet learned that nurses can either make you or break you...but he will.
