Question DDD pacemakers

Could anyone help explain to me what exactly a DDD pacemaker is? I know it's a dual mode, dual chamber, dual sensing? pacer. But I still don't quite understand how it all works.

Or better yet, if anyone knows of any good websites explaining the different types of permanent pacers... I couldn't find any.

Anything would be appreciated!
Thanks
