Curious - Davenport University Acceptance Letters for Fall 2008

I was just wondering how long it takes to get an acceptance/rejection letter from Davenport University, Warren Michigan campus. The deadline was May 16th. What should I expect?

I too am waiting for my letter, this is my second time at it. I didn't get in last year for their program, hopefully this time. The letters come in June. Good luck to you.

Do you have any idea why you didn't get in last time? I am freaking out about it. This is my first time.

Re: Davenport University Acceptance Letters for Fall 2008

I am not sure, maybe just alot of applicants. I am sure my GPA and essay were fine (I hope). I also sent in the letters of recommendation and met all my pre-reqs. They didn't say really just that they were sorry I didn't make it in at this time.

I was crushed. This is my last attempt, then I will try another school.

Did they tell you when you first started their that you had to apply to the program for nursing?.. When I started in 05 she never told me I had to apply to the program and be accepted, so I was a little suprised because I was unaware of all that went along with this.

Hopefully, we will both get in!! please keep me posted and let me know when you get your letter.

oh, how did you do on your Hesi?

Re: Davenport University Acceptance Letters for Fall 2008

I don't have a 4.0, but everyone keeps telling me that is ok. I only got a 78 on my HESI. I was told you need at least an 80, but someone I talked to that was on the board last year said a 75. I thought the HESI was hard. I transferred from OCC and had to take extra classes. I took my BIO105 which was chemistry/biology. Our instructor up and left in the middle of the semester and we never learned any chemistry! I bombed the chemistry part. I got 100% in math, 88% in Biology and 80% in A&P. The chemistry killed me! I also had someone read my essay that read them last year, she said it was good, got my recommendations in. I am just worried about my GPA. My counselor told me that someone got in last year with a 2.7 because her essay was awesome! Don't know. It is just driving me nuts. I hate waiting to be judged, ya know? I knew I had to apply, which I thought was wierd, I filled out the exact application that I did when I applied to Davenport, so I was confused, but I checked with my counselor before the deadline and he said I did everything I needed and all my stuff was in. I will keep you posted, I am praying for both of us!!

Re: Davenport University Acceptance Letters for Fall 2008

It sounds like you did everything right. I have a 3.5 GPA, and on my Hesi I got 79.50 (which I guess rounded off is 80 (lol). I got a 80% in A&P and 76% in Bio and a 96% in Chem and a horrible 66% in Math (I hate algebra). I know people did way better, but it all depends on how many are applying to the Lpn program and other factors, so we will see. If I don't get in I am not sure where to go from here since Davenport is sooo expensive. I am 39 and have 3 kids, so I was hoping to get in and move along with things, but maybe it is not meant to be. We will see. Have a great Holiday weekend, I am headed up north.

Do you know anyone who did get in the program??

Re: Davenport University Acceptance Letters for Fall 2008

I am 33 and have 3 kids myself. I am really hoping to get the ball rolling as well! I only have a 3.2 GPA. I am really hoping that my essay was strong enough. I really want this and can only know that I have done everything that I could. I messed up by taking math online in 7 weeks! That is what killed my GPA. I was going to take it over, but they said my loan wouldn't cover it, I would have to pay for it! So I didn't. It is what it is. Obviously my math scores on the HESI were good, so my math grade really wasn't me. I am glad to know someone that is in the same boat as me. I feel like I am in competition with 19 year olds that still live at home and no kids and CAN get a 4.0. But I am a hands on person. I was nurse assistant and loved it! I hope we get in together!! Davenport is expensive. I don't know what I am going to do if I don't get in. I thought about EMT or phlebotomy while I wait. I have to get a job soon. I have not worked in 2 years!! Well have fun up north! I will talk to you when you get back. We are staying put this weekend.

Re: Davenport University Acceptance Letters for Fall 2008

Oh, I forgot to mention. I do know 2 people that got in last year. The one is a friend of mine, and the other was a friend of hers. My friend had a 3.5 and an 80 on the HESI. She said her essay was what got her in...??? Don't know how she knows that. Her friend had like a 3.3 and an 80 on the HESI. So I am not sure how it works. Like I said, my advisor said he knows someone that got in with a 2.7!! I do agree that the 4.0 doesn't mean you will be a good nurse, it just means you can pass the tests. But the real test is in the program, ya know?

Re: Davenport University Acceptance Letters for Fall 2008

Hello. I am a current LPN student at Davenport. I start the RN (2nd year in Sept 2008). They keep changing the requirements, basically now that Warren has both Dearborn and Warren students they will accept 60 students for Fall 2008 for LPN and 60 for RN. I had a 3.5, got a 76 on my HESI. They are getting more strict and want to boost their NCLEX results so they are going by grades, etc. I had A's and a couple of B-'s when I got in. They seem to take students that have been waiting to get in first. I started pre-req's in Fall 2005.

Their program is expensive and it's not easy. Exams every week but their clinicals are nice that there is morning and evening.

Good Luck! If you get a larger envelope, you got in. If you get a regular size envelope and it's a few weeks after the acceptances in case someone does not take a spot, then the denial letters are sent out. It will cost you $150 out of your pocket to reserve your spot (the money goes to the Fall semester). We have to apply for the 2nd year also and do the same thing.

Re: Davenport University Acceptance Letters for Fall 2008

JC-nursing,

Thanks for the info. I am on pins and needles!! If I get my letter early in June, does that usually mean a denial? My advisor told me that denials go out, then acceptances, then some don't get a letter at all until just before the semester starts. The ones that don't get a letter are alternates in case someone doesn't pay their money or decides not to go. I wish my GPA was a little higher, but there isn't much I can do about it. I messed up by taking math online in 7 weeks. I really shouldn't have done that. My loan wouldn't pay for me to take it over, I would have to pay for it myself. I also heard that the essay has a lot to do with your acceptance. I really want this bad, just like everyone else I will keep you posted.
