Clinic Nurses...Do You Use Another Doctor for Your Personal Doctor???

I just started working in a clinic...LOVE the doctors and the PAs there, but I really have no desire to change providers. Everyone else in the clinic sees someone in the clinic and uses someone in the clinic for their children and spouse, but I LIKE my doctor...I like him a lot. The doctor that owns the clinic has no problem with me staying where I am, but it just feels a little weird...almost like patronizing the competition. I've had a few people (no one at work or in my family) say that it is almost like working for Holiday Inn, yet always staying at the Marriot.

Also...the doctor that owns the clinic says I can start having my routine lab run there (I get a TSH every 90 days) and that if they have samples of anything that I am prescribed, I am welcome to use them (as is everyone else in the clinic). That doesn't seem right to me either...I don't feel like I should take advantage of their equipment and supplies when I am seeing the doctor across the street.

What do you think?

I would probably see a different provider than the one I work with. More personal thing I guess. I wouldn't go around sharing personal healthcare info with my docs- I just don't see the need for them to know that stuff. I am afraid it would effect our work relationship.
Esp if you work for an OB/gyn. lol

I think I would stay with the Doctor that I like and trust. Don't feel like you are supporting the competition. I'll bet they (the Docs) don't feel that way either.

When EVERYONE is making good money, there is no need to be greedy.

I'll bet your employer see other docs as colleagues; not competetion.

Re: Clinic Nurses...Do You Use Another Doctor for Your Personal Doctor???

I personally couldn't see a Dr. that I worked with as my physician. I don't go to work in a little paper gown, therefore i don't want one of my co-workers to see me in one, EVER! I'd also be concerned about everyone in the clinic knowing about my own personal concerns. It would seem to me that in a clinic setting, it would be hard to hide why your going to see the doctor.

Stick with the person your comfortable with.

Do not, I repeat, Do not see any of the MD's in your office. If you have a bump on your butt, everyone in the building will know about it before you get your pants up!

Re: Clinic Nurses...Do You Use Another Doctor for Your Personal Doctor???

I am at a crossroads too where I might be taking a job in a private surgical practice (17 MDs plus various mid-level providers). I wouldn't see them unless there was NO other choice. My work and private life are two separate entities. I also wouldn't share with anyone I work with any medical information. Again, its none of their business.

Re: Clinic Nurses...Do You Use Another Doctor for Your Personal Doctor???

I would keep my primary doctor for personal things. I have seen physicians that I work with for something minor, such as sore throat or sinus infection but nothing more than that.
