Civilian Hospital Vs. Military Hospital

I am going to graduate in May with a RN-BSN and I am deciding where to work.

What is the difference/benefits of working in a civilian hospital vs working as a civilian in a military hospital?

Please let me know your opinion. Thanks.

Re: Civilian Hospital Vs. Military Hospital

I did two weeks of agency nursing at a Navy hospital.
The system is very different. Medics have a scope of practice I was not familiar with.
I though the care was excellent. This was about 20 years ago.

Re: Civilian Hospital Vs. Military Hospital

I had a supvr that worked in mil hosp for yrs until she really got screwed over at a job which resulted in a lawsuit on her part. Her husband was mil, so it really was lowdown how she was treated when her husb passed away in the middle of her empl probs. She kept all of this to herself until she told me about it when I was having some probs. Eye opening. But bad work situations are everywhere, anytime, for anybody. The mil hosp have their own bureaucracy but are generally a good place to work. VA hosp are sometimes referred to as the best kept secrets by people I have spoken to. Good luck on your decisions concerning where you work.
