Burn paient diet

Hello everyone. I am new to this and want to say Hi. I also have a question. I have to plan a 3 day diet for a patient who has burns over 40% of their body. I was wondering if any of you have any suggestions?

Re: Burn paient diet

Well, from what I remember from floating to burns years ago is lots of calories and protein! but a specialized burn nurse would be more qualified to answer. we had a milkshake maker on the counter in the kitchen on the unit, and lots of icecream and milk in the freezer/fridge. plus we added big scoops of protein powder to it.

lots of protein and vitamin c to promote healing. increase calories, as they are in a hypermetabolic state. monitor electrolytes--potassium especially. give gatorade instead of free water if hypovolemic/hypokalemic.
