Question Breast Implants

I was just wondering how you feel about this subject. Do you have them? Would you get them? Have you cared for patients with them and what was your experience? Have you seen any good or bad outcomes?

Re: Breast Implants

You know, I wouldn't get breast implants myself. I am an "almost A" meaning I have to buy special bras. It doesn't bother me though. I can't imagine having so much in front there...seems to me they would get in my way.

I did have a nose job several years ago. I am so glad I did. I remember when I had it done and I was post-op I was blathering on with the plastic surgeon telling him I wanted one more procedure. I saw his face light up and he looked at my chest expectantly. I told him...I want my eye lids lifted in about 15 years...I don't want to look 'tired'. My plastic surgeon gave me this puzzled look, like not the breasts?

Anyway, I would not feel comfortable having a foreign body like that in my body. But that's me. I also know I have a slight bit of judgment towards women who do get breast augmentation which is hypocritical of me. I am angry that we are supposed to be stick figures with big boobs. But I try to check myself to not judge those who do have breast augmentation because who am I to say anything, I had my nose done. I guess the sexual aspect brings out more judgement, and it shouldn't.

In the end life is short and if it makes you happy why not? Unless you want to hold out for philosophical reasons that we shouldn't all be trying to look like Barbie.

edited to add: It's important to know that if you do get it done, you will probably have to go back every 5-10 years. It's not permanent. They shift, scar, rupture. You can also need a breast lift eventually. So it can get quite pricey.

Also, I have seen patients with implants. It's kind of funny with the older ladies. They lay down and the implants don't. If you know what I mean.

I have them. And they are silicone. I haven't had any problems that I'm aware of. I've had them in since 1988. I'm looking to have them out and replaced this year with new ones. I was told that they will replace them with silicone because I've already had silicone for so long. I'm a bit bigger now so I can afford to go up a cup. :hatparty:

Are you thinking about getting them?

I know of other people that have had problems with the silicone, but I haven't. My sister has saline implants. She loves hers.

Re: Breast Implants

I had breast implants a little over a year ago. I got them for my b-day. Wish I could have done it sooner. I was alway very self conscious about my body. My husband has never made me feel bad for having small breast but knew how much better I would feel about myself. I have had people who know me say "there is something different about you but I just can't put my finger on it." It has given me a boost of self confidence that I did not have before. It is the only plastic surgery that I plan on having and would do it again in a heart beat.

Re: Breast Implants

Two of my cousins both have the silicone implants since 1980, they have never had a problem & still have em! I guess some bodies reject & others do well.

Has anyone has Botox or Restylane yet? A couple of my friends had, they are the same age, middle 40's...big difference how they looked before. Shaved about 7-10 years off their age!

That would be expensive....buttttt......you don't have to go back every 5-10 years and I definitely don't look like Barbie. I had even smaller breasts, 32 AA when I had them put in. I was 17 with nothing, basically. I had to buy special bras too....they were called "training bras." I was very insecure about my looks. Back then, I was thin. Now I've become a little thicker.... so the breasts suit my body size....

The key is going to a reputable doctor....Be leary of the ones that are offering huge discounts....check the background of your MD first. My MD was the best in town. Do everything the MD says and take care of your breasts. And when I mean do what the MD says, I mean, do exactly what he says. Back then (not sure what they do now), we had to where this snug vest thing after the surgery for a certain number of days. It was tailored to my body size. I know a person that didn't wear it the number of days she was supposed to and she developed lumps and all kinds of complications.

Frog,

Thank you for your candid opinion. My only frustration with this is that men do notice women with the large breasts MUCH MORE than us smaller ones. I have one significantly padded bra, and if I get asked out, it's nearly always on the rare padded bra day.

So what is frustrating is I hear from men occasionally what you said...but then who do they ask out? The women with large breasts. It's enough to make a girl go get a boob job.

I don't have a problem talking about my fake breasts. I'm kinda proud of them. I couldn't get over having nothing but nubs when I was 17. I was made fun of and pestered by my boyfriend and others that my breasts were so small. It really does effect a woman's self esteem. Not everyone, I'm sure. It definitely did mine...

It would be the same thing for a man if he had a small....well, ya know...I think that would cause him to be very insecure.
