Ethical Issue - Battery

Hi everyone, I just had a quick question. I had a test question once asking about battery.. I was immediately able to eliminate two of the answers but was stuck on one bc it said that the nurse was administering oxygen to a patient with copd with he was sleeping?? Would that be a form of battery?

Re: Battery

I would say No, unless the pt woke up and protested.

Re: Battery

Kind of difficult to answer. If the patient has previously informed the staff he did not want the oxygen administered, it was noted and passed on, then yes the nurse committed battery. If he had not, then no.

Re: Battery

Perhaps, if the pt had refused O2 before he was asleep.
