Re: Appearance at work

I'm addicted to eyeliner, since junior high! I use Unstoppable by Maybelline, same for mascara. And a soft neutral shadow on the lids. I even tried toning down my eye makeup once... it only lasted a few days before I was back to my old habits. I somehow feel more confident with my eyes done. And always a touch of blush b/c I'm very fair. But foundation is only a little concealer and a dusting of powder. I break out if there's too much on my skin! Only lip balm on the lips, which I apply CONSTANTLY. As for hair, mine is rather long, but I still like to wear it down. Some mornings I blow dry it straight, but usually just comb and let it dry in its natural waves. Only if it looks hideous or it's very hot will I pull it up into a ponytail.

Nurses where I work must wear white shoes and scrub pants, but tops can be any color. I like to wear pretty florals or soft solid colors either alone or with a contrasting T-shirt underneath.

Because I have blotchy skin that has been plagued with acne (hello red spots) since I became pregnant.

Re: Appearance at work

Trust me...NO ONE wants to see me work without makeup.

I look drastically different, and I look like I'm sick.

Not everyone looks good without makeup...and I sure don't want to be treated by a nurse that looks like she needs to be in the next bed beside me.

Oh believe me, I let my skin go nekkid (that's how we say it in these parts) as much as I can....but at work, I'm with Hopefull. You don't want to see me w/o out it if you're in the hospital trusting me with your wellbeing!

I pray my dear 3yo does not grow up to have the adult acne issues that I have!!!

What about uniforms?

I know this is stuff that has been brought up a million times before...but.

The hospital where I work is about to set in place a new uniform (vendor supplied, color and style pre chosen) policy. I'm worried many nurses will be unhappy with this, especially those that prefer cotton and non elastic scrubs.

Anyone work in a hospital where this has been put in place. Is it working, are nurses happy? Has it failed and why?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.
I am on "the committee" and we will also be dealing with the details like shoes, hair and makeup eventually too.

Much Thanks!

Re: Appearance at work

For work / clinicals, I tone down my normal "goth" makeup... skip the eyeliner entirely, just powder, shadow, mascara. No lipstick, just lip balm.

Scrubs.. all my work pants are black. For tops I tend to go for deep jewel tones. I wear mostly black outside of work, but I think it would disconcert (especially) my dementia patients.

Hair is usually in one braid down my back.
