Question Anyone work weekends only?

I just had my second baby and am considering taking a position when I return to work working weekends only. The pay is great and I would be able to stay home with my kids during the week. The negative is not being home on weekends when my husband is off and I could miss a lot. Anyone work weekends only? What do you like/dislike?

Teresa

Re: Anyone work weekends only?

My neighbor works two weekend nights, and makes great money. She is a single mom, and her daughter has sleepovers with her cousins on those nights, or she's visiting her father (every 2 weeks). This seems to work well for them, but I think it would be hard only seeing hubby at night when he wasn't working.

Re: Anyone work weekends only?

I do this, and love it.

I like always knowing what my schedule is going to be, getting paid for full time but only working part time, and being home with my family all during the week.

Of course working weekends makes ur weekend shot, but to me its worth the trade off.

Re: Anyone work weekends only?

I worked a Fri-Sat night weekend plan in the late 80s-early 90s until the hospital abruptly terminated it. [They magnanimously said I could continue to work every weekend, but without any weekend benefit.] The plan was that I worked 24 hrs, was paid for 40, and had part time benefits and three paid weekends off per year. I am a single mom and so I felt like a full-time mom from Sunday morning to Friday night. Child care was a huge problem, of course, for those hours. It was hard to explain to people that I couldn't make some of their weekend functions, as my weekends off were booked a year in advance. OTOH, it got me out of things I didn't really want to do.

My world (financial, child care, and otherwise) was totally upset when the hospital pulled the rug out from under us (as well as other nurses who were on special plans), and let us all know we were worthless and expendable. Now that hospital is reaping what it sowed, in terms of needing massive incentives to get people to work.

Re: Anyone work weekends only?

I've worked weekends for over 2 years now. I took the position just to help out until we hired a weekend supervisor and it wasnt log before I claimed the position as mine!!

It's THE best schedule ever! I'm off all week....I can lounge by the pool all day. on the weekends my butt belongs to my facility lol

I would highly recommend it~

The only drawbacks I have had have been things like family gatherings, kids games on the weekends, birthdays and holidays that fall on the weekend...but my entire family understands my schedule and we just plan things after i get off.

also, if you like overtime, you can go in during the week any time you want...or if you have a great boss like mine...you can be guilt tripped into it lol

Re: Anyone work weekends only?

I work 20 hours a week, weekend only. I couldn't be happier. I work 8 hour nights, I tried the 12's but 8 hours allows me to still have some semblance of a life on the weekends. I still get 6-8 weekends off a year, and full benefits. Plus 10% weekend diff anytime I work, weekend or not.

Re: Anyone work weekends only?

Been a Baylor for 5 years, LOVE IT! I work Friday 7P-7A, go home sleep ALL day Saturday, return to work Sat 7P-7A, go home and sleep for two/three hours, OOB by noon and then go to bed early Sunday (8P). I never deviate from this routine. This enables me to return to a normal life by Monday morning and the only day I really miss out on is Sat. My body adjusted slowly, but it did adjust.

My son was 11yo when I started this routine and he would sleep at Grandma's Fri. and do a sleepover at best friends house on Sat. night. I work with other Baylors who have smaller children and it is not so easy for them.

I work full-time weekend double shifts only. I work Saturday and Sunday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and am paid for 40 hours per week with benefits.
