Just wondering if anyone would be willing to share their experiences with IHS. Specifically, did anyone utilize their Loan Repayment Program for Nursing schooling? If so, where did you end up and how did you choose (or they chose) where to go? I see that they have specific sites that are a higher score for repayment program. One of the highest and Ft Defiance, AZ and looks like it usually has lots of openings. Did anyone spend time in Ft Defiance and what is the reason why it seems they have a harder time filling positions? What are some good questions to ask and look into if considering this option?

I don't have any first-hand experience, but a friend of mine married a woman who paid her way through medical school with an IHS scholarship. After she finished her residency in family practice, they moved to Pinetop, AZ to fulfill her IHS obligation at the health center on a reservation. They have both enjoyed the experience and lifestyle so much that, even though she completed her "required" time many years ago, they have stayed in the same area and she has stayed at the same medical center.

Of course, that wouldn't necessarily mean that anyone else would enjoy it that much -- they just happen to really enjoy the area and lifestyle. But I know that they were v. happy with their IHS experience.
