Re: Anybody work at Albany Medical Center

Hi! I don't work at AMC but I did not some clinicals there. I enjoyed it and almost accepted a position there but took something else. I have friends who work there and they like it. The pay and benefits are good and there are plenty of opportunities in all types of nursing. good luck

Re: Anybody work at Albany Medical Center

I worked there years ago. It was a pretty good place to work. I was seen in the ER and a patient twice, from 2000 to 2003. I was impressed with the ER. And the staff on the floor I was on. AMC is a very old and very well thought of regional medical center. I would work there again, if I lived in the area.

Re: Anybody work at Albany Medical Center

I currently work in the Lab and just started a PCA position in the NICU. I have done rotations through there also.

Pay is decent, average in the area. There are other hospitals around here that pay more though and offer better benefits. Benefits are comparable to the area. I don't know if they offer tuition reimbursement though. To my belief, staffing is adequate, and theres always someone there to help which I like. Also there's residents on call and attendings/NP's always available. It's the only trauma level 1 hospital in the area so you get to see a lot of things and not just related to trauma.

The only thing I don't like about the hospital is that is run too much like a business like for my tasting, but I would consider working there once I graduate.

Are you knew to the area?

xkimmie518x:

no, I live in western massachusetts, but will be taking my exam in ny state - there are few choices nearby, and would rather work in a more urban setting - I realize Albany isn't a big place, but still it's more so than where I live. The staffing issue is a big one for me, as I did clinicals in two hospitals and the staffing was so bad it was dangerous.
I suspect most hospitals are run like businesses, and in that I'm assuming you mean always having the bottom line and legal self-preservation being more important than everything else that ought to matter.
Can you tell me which hospitals have good benefits and pay? I have heard that once you go over the state line it gets better. As well, I don't like living in a fish bowl, and boy, is my community ever like that.
