All those conscious sedations I've done........

I've helped with so many sedation procedures over the years, recovered and then discharged the pts home. I always told the families to expect the pt to want to sleep, etc.

I want to apologize to those families. Especially when the pts were small children.

Monster is 2 hours post Versed and has been crying and screaming almost the whole time. Every little thing ticks her off. No tears, just really unhappy and screaming "MAMA!" over and over. Then she'll settle down, like now, and curl up next to me. Give it a few minnits and she'll find another reason to start. Poor kid is so drunk she can't even stand up without wobbling.

The next two hours are gonna be very long........

Hi Tazzi . ... wow, versed? My dentist uses nitrous only.

My son did have surgery for undescended testicle and he got versed first . . . he was ok post-op but some of the other kids were inconsolable.

I'm sorry about Monster. Give her a hug from me.

Awww....poor tyke....... Well, consider it a lesson learned. You most likely won't be saying that again.. I get like that if Morphine is even in the same room with me. I am a morphine monster. I can take any other pain med and it just makes me loopy and drowsy. Morphine makes me see things flying around...I get extremely rowdy.....

I feel for the little one and sorry you are in the "Mommy fix it" position and can't fix it....I hated those times....

poor thing and poor you! Hope its goes away soon!

yeah versed can do wacky things to kiddos. Mine was a happy drunk on po versed prior to her surgery. Made the whole seperation so much better. she woke up fine and only needed 5 mcg of Fentanyl in pacu. I have seen 1st hand though in pacu the opposite effect on some kids- they turn into terrors and freak the parents out! One of the girls I work with said her daughter had it a few weeks ago for the 1st time for a procedure and she was like a mean drunk..

Why, oh why, don't they offer a dose to the parents?

If your incident hadn't been so sad, I would be rolling in the aisles with laughter. I have had Versed several times, especially during my stay last July, and I can barely remember leaving ICU or the pre-op area. Several of my nurses told me I was a funny drunk, telling several bad jokes. Keep the faith. This too will pass. And she will turn back into the sweet girl she is.

Was I making an unwarrented assumption. If so, she will turn into the nasty brat she was before

No, not nasty.......not really a brat, most of the time.......just the monster child.......if you look at a picture she looks like a perfect angel. She is the favorite of the daycare provider, who always calls her Princess. Hubs, DS, DD, and I are apparently the only ones who see the horns that hold up the halo that is so dinged that it doesn't even resemble a circle anymore......

Perhaps she could get a new one. Without the dings and dents. My grandson looked like a beautiful angel, when he was a sleep.
