Red face AHHHHHHHH orientation!- help

Hello everyone! Finally I started orientation after looking for a job for 4 mo's-jeez!. There are jobs here in Ny for LPNs but mostly for the experienced. So this newbie took the chance at anything that would come. So orientation starts- LTC facility, the nurse I had seemed annoyed at my multiple questions and didn't understand that I was fresh outta school. I was so mad at her I just wanted to walk staight outta the door, it was not a good day, I was close to tears. I also have to take a med pass, where someone from the state watches me pass meds- Scared as H*ll! The issue with the nurse was resolved( for now) thanks to the director of nrsg stepping in and changin my preceptor. BUT, I'm still scared. Scared to pass meds, scared of not getting everything right! I need reassurance

You'll do fine. Just remember the 5 rights and you'll be fine.

Mike, are you the font/paragraph separator police?

To the OP, you'll do fine. LTC is daunting, even for seasoned nurses. Just remember your 5 rights. Most of the time the person watching you is only going to stay for 2-3 peoples meds. It'll be over before you know it!

you had to "perform" in front of your instructor. No different. You can do that.

Re: AHHHHHHHH orientation!- help

Thanks everyone!, especially Crissrn27, I thought they would watch you for a bunch of people. The unit I'm on has 39 residents( yikes!). The nurse that works there takes about 2.5 hrs to give out meds (8:30-11) and shes been working there for quite a while, so I recognize that I will proabably be giving out meds for much longer- . I'm a perfectionist so I have to give myself a break, guess I will get it with time, even though I want to get it all now, now ,now!

Of course! The 5 Rights!

1. Mike's right.
2. Refer to rule #1
3. Ask Mike, who can refer you to rules #1-2
4. Right and Mike almost rhyme.
5. When in doubt, ask Mike.

Re: AHHHHHHHH orientation!- help

I agree - the font is an affront. IT was somewhat better in your 2nd post.

I also agree that you'll probably do fine. Just follow the rules as they have been taught to you.

And understand that the 1st preceptor was probably overwhelmed or sick or Heaven only knows what. Questions can be very annoying. I know you have to learn but maybe she was having a rough day and was not willing to teach right then. I hope the 2nd preceptor and you are better suited to each other.

I wish you well in your new job.
