I'm sure it depends on the state you're in. I completed my first year of my ADN program and then had a baby 3 weeks before I was supposed to return for my second year. I chose to take time off to stay at home even though my school would not hold a spot for me. I essentially had to wait for someone to drop out of 3rd semester in order for me to get in so I inquired about sitting for the LVN exam so I would at least not lose everything I'd worked so hard for in case I didn't get back in to the RN program. The director told me I could not sit for the exam unless I had a minimum of 5 years experience on the floor as a CNA before nursing school.

I did not have the experience but fortunately my school got a grant and let me back in 18 months later. I now graduate in December! Yipee!!!
This is in Calfornia, BTW
