I am in process of searching for accelerated BSN programs that are approx. 12 months or less. I have started app for one program but have questions for those already in or in process of applying to same program..Did you apply to one program only or how many? If you have been accepted and does not reveal too much about your identify can you tell me which school you are in. I ask because I have spent a long time on net searching for schools that don't require GRE, no longer than 12 months, no TOEFL. Yes even though I am British I am required by one school to take the TOEFL. I am going to take it as program only 11 months and not much required in terms of applying - other than degree, transcripts and online app. So any experiences related to applying to accelerated BSN programs is appreciated. I am looking for accpetnace either in Fall '06 or Spring '07. Thanks

There is a nursing school in Puerto Rico called Interamericana Unversidad de Puerto Rico. It is longer than twelve months, but it is cheap! The total tuition is about $18,000. The program is 24 months for a BSN, but they except transfer credits. You have the option to exit with an ADN. The program is divided into trimesters not semesters. It is also in English. My husband who is from Croatia or his friends did not have take the TOEFL. There is not a waitting list to get into the program. The program is easy to get into. I applied to the school a week before the program started and got in. As far as I know there is really no deadline for the Fall trimester. I completed the BSN program under two years and passed the NCLEX. Why not get your BSN on a tropical island? Good luck!

Most of the deadlines for these programs for Fall '06 have already passed. This is because most of them start in the summer. Also, it seems to me that most of them start either in the summer or fall, though I've heard UNC is toying with the idea of starting a second ABSN program that will start in January, but I don't know when that will begin. I've applied to five programs in three states, and will pretty much go with whomever takes me. The shortest one I've applied to is twelve months at Stony Brook University in New York. (Deadline was 12/31/05.) I've looked at probably every ABSN program in the US, and theirs is the shortest one I've ever seen. I hope they're not the only ones who accept me, because the fact that you start on 1 July and graduate on 30 June actually scares me to death.

I find it disgusting that some school wants you to take the TOEFL. I would argue that if I were you, or just not apply!

Where are you looking to attend school?
There is a 12 month program Accel. BSN program at Pace University in New York City, that starts in the fall. I am not sure when the deadline is, but check it out as soon as you can.

I am in this program which started in January. But there is also a fall entrance.
This program is a combined BSN/MSN program. But the BSN portion is only 12 mos, or 3 semesters. Then you would continue with the MSN portion which is about 1.5 yrs. But you could do that part time if you wish, while you work, or even take a leave of absence.
But they also require the GRE test (Graduate Record Examination) since it's a combined degree program.

This is the only program that I know of, that is only 12 mos. for the BSN.
Most I've looked into, at least in the East Coast U .S., take at least 14-16 months , and some even 18 mos.

There is also a 14 mos. program at Seton Hall University in Orange, NJ that starts in the fall.

You also need to determine how much you're willing to pay/borrow for these program.
Pace U. is a private university, so the fees are higher than state schools. It cost approx. $50,000 (tuition, books, fees) for the 12 mos program. Plus more for transportation, etc.
You can take out loans too.

Seton Hall is also a private school and costs about $48,000 + more for transportation and other fees.

There are cheaper schools, such as UMDNJ in Newark, NJ and it's a 14 mos. program. There is a fall start date, but the deadline is coming soon.

It will probably be hard to find a program that is less than 12 months. In the NYC area I know of the following accelerated programs:

1. SUNY Downstate - 15mths (tuition/fees @ $8K)
2. NYU - 15mths (tuition/fees @ $56K)
3. Columbia - Entry to Practice Program (BSN-MSN). The BSN is about 12mths and then you continue on to get the Masters degree. The tuition is about as high as NYU but I hear that they offer pretty good financial aid.
4. Pace University - BSN/MSN program. BSN is 12mths, require GRE. Tution is a little less than NYU and Columbia but still pricey.
5. SUNY Stonybrook - 12mths (affordable tuition similar to SUNY Downstate)
6. Wagner College - 15mths (private college so tuition is a little pricey - similar to Pace prices).

Well, that's all I can think of right now. Sorry I don't have more info for schools outside of NY. Also, most of the deadlines have passed for summer and fall admittance. I'll be attending SUNY Downstate starting in June. Feel free to PM if you have any questions. Good luck with your search!

I just graduated in December from EKU's (Eastern Kentucky U) accelerated BSN program. It was 16 months. However, I would strongly encourage you to include 16-month programs in your search! It is not that much longer, only 1 semester (or 4 months), and I don't feel I had enough clinical time with a 16-month, let alone a 12-month program. My husband completed the same program the year before, and he was a medic in the Army, so he had a much stronger background in health than me--a journalism major!

My program's deadline is not until May 1st (I think) for the fall.

Jacksonville, FL has a 16-month ABSN, starts in both January and August.

Bellarmine U. in Louisville, KY has a 12-month program, but they are private and extremely expensive. EKU's program was very inexpensive compared to most schools, did not require GRE, TOEFL, etc. and was about $2,000 a semester.

I would just search on the Internet at all the state schools and look at their nursing program webpage to see if they have an accelerated, how long, prerequisites, etc.

Binghamton University (State University) in New York has a 12 month program that I finished last August. It now runs from May-May. Overall, I thought it was a great program, albeit quick and I believe that it does not require the GRE and I doubt the TOEFL for a British citizen-that is just too ironic.

The University of Oklahoma has 9 month RN-BSN or 12 month LPN-BSN. All classes are online but 1 Saturday a month is required in person for clinicals. You must have all the gen-ed/pre-reqs completed first.

The ONLY accelerated BSN program (meaning a program for obtaining a BSN for people already with a BA or BS in another field) in the USA that is less than 12 mos is Drexel Univ. in Philadelphia. I know this from my own research. Drexel's program is 11 mos and is the shortest in the entire nation.

Most accelerated/2nd degree BSN programs are 14-18 months. Few are 12 months, and a few more can be as long as 2 yrs.

I applied for and was accepted into the accelerated BSN at Research College of Nursing in KC, MO. It runs from August to August, but has a prerequisite that each student take 15 credits at Rockhurst University (also in KC). So in June 06 I will take all 15 credits at Rockhurst, then do the program from August to August.

Technically it is a 12 month program, but the Summer at Rockhurst makes it a 14th month program. No GRE.
