Hi,

You will recover and place all your fears and anxiety into political activism. We need to fight for patient/staff ratios to improve patient care and stop the madness. Our profession has set us up to fail in these circumstances. You did not decide to make an error and hurt someone that day. If nurses had the time to care, teach, and treat, the medical errors would be reduced tremendously!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You will heal and improve the health care delivery system. Please do not leave us...we need you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: 7000 fatal med errors last year-where are theses nurses?

[quote=augigi] I had to go through a Coroners Court investigation, make police statements, testify etc. It was very traumatic, with almost no support from either my employer or my nursing association. I had to fight even to get adequate legal representation.

just yet another reminder to all new grads or any old time nurses who do not have any - get your own liability insurance - it will help you get the legal aide you need and cover you on the event of an error - as above most employers will hang you out to dry and try to cover thier own butts. i believe i have mine through theh NSO - i dont recall - do a search on nursing liability ins - the little it costs could save you greatly in the event of what if - we get car in and house ins etc at what if - please dont be like some of my friends and think its a waste of time and money - just knowing the what if is covered is relief in itself. here is one link to the NSO http://www.nso.com/ ( i hope its ok to post a link ) - i am sure there is many other ins co out there - perhpas een through your own personal agent - good luck
