Smile Clinical Research Question

Hi,

I am currently working as a scientist and would like to do clinical research. Can anyone tell me how they got started? Did you first work on the med-surg floor and then proceeded to clinical research? I just graduated from nursing school.

Thanks
Sabee06

Re: Any clinical research nurses out there?

Hi all...I've just peeked in after quite awhile and how nice to see some interest in this group. I work as a research nurse in GI oncology clinical trials. In many ways it reminds me of my years and years in ICU....the pace, the intermittent adrenalin rush; and my very few years in home health....the paperwork! I guess that's everywhere though. My patients are wonderful, ...the reason to be anywhere if you're a nurse. There's so much to say on the subject it's hard to know where to start. For getting into it I agree that there are so many types of research done in more places that I'm even aware of, it's probably very diifficult to formulate "the recipe". Happy to answer any questions regarding my particular area though.

Re: Any clinical research nurses out there?

i''m interested in getting into another area. i do see a research job that doesn't require research experience so i could get my foot into the door. i have 20 years of clinicial experience with the past being peds and the past 10 being telephone triage. it does require lab draws. its been awhile but that wasn't a problem with me. are these people hard lab draws?

Re: Any clinical research nurses out there?

I have been working as a research nurse for the last4 months. I am not able to to do it full time, I work in an oncolgy/gyn office and I do the research in between. Right now I have 5 pts which I follow. I worked on a rehab floor prior to this and I was really ready to get off the floor and off 12 hr shifts. So far it is working out well, some of the data management stuff can be sorta tedious and requires alot of time. Some days I will spend hours going over labs and values. Of course, the more I get familiar with a protocol the easier it becomes and I am still learning. I think I would like to do this full time at some point. I really like working "alone" which suprised me some. The hours and the pay are good and I am exloring a different kind of nursing

Re: Any clinical research nurses out there?

Hi, I'm a CCRC also, I work for a Cardiology group on many different studies, I have been doing this for 3 years now and really enjoy it. I've been with the group for 4 years now, I was a floor nurse 12-hour shift at our local hospital working in ICU/PCU for 7 years and also retired from the military. Do any one know about military research?
