Ive done it all alone , so far: Minnesota license, NCLEX, Visascreen, endorse to cali.
Now all I nned to do is take a letter from an employer(of whom I've been talkin to a few) to the border with Visa screen and passport and Cali license (ta da!) Right?
But...as a last minute reflection. What would be the pros of working with a recruiter (As I have been in touch with one - but not commited)
The Cons would be (according to some hospital's HRs) that the money that would go to a recruiter, could go to the nurse in the way of incentives such as Bonuses or Relocation reimbursement.
Any other thoughts to add?
P.S. I am still perplexed as to what to do about an auto down there...It may be difficult for a canadian vehicle to get registered down there in cali with the tough emissions standard.
Any thoughts / experiences on this anyone.
P.S. P.S. I have been visiting my Girlfrind almost monthly in California. Wil they give me some hastle when I go to the Border to obtain my TN? Will they "Assume" Im going down there to immigrate? Cause I dont really plan on it. I mean if I can be working down there on a TN visa - thats good enough for me. I really dont want to get turned away, I really wnat to be closer to her. Ive heard stories- that if they have any indication you are going down ther eto get married...While on you TN Visa..they could dis-allow you. Any experiences / thoughts on this matter?
Some hospitals may only accept you if you go through their process which may involve a recruiter but not sure if it is an absolute requirements. Answer truthfully to the immigration officer but do not supply information they do not ask for, if they ask you have any connection then answer truthfully if they don't then don't offer it. Not sure on cars but may have issues

Recruiters have to be paid by someone, either the facility, or taken from your pay. Average charge by one is about $10,000. First choice would always be to do it on your own, unless there are specifics with the job and the employer only uses recruiters.
The letter that you will need is actually more than four pages long and has quite a few specifics that need to be included, just make sure that all of the information is included in it.
Please be aware that CA has a very high rate of unemplyment at the moment, so it may be hard for a facility to prove that they could not hire an American for the job. Quite a few facilities also have hiring freezes in place as well. Not sure which part of CA and how much experience that you do have, this is going to make a big difference.
Best of luck to you.

Just please do a search, using the search engine that we have here. There are a few threads that contain the links of everything that must be included. The employer should also be aware of what is required since they are the ones that provide the letter.
Do you actually hold a Canadian passport?

I hope I'm posting in the right place. I'm a Canadian RN, I passed the NCLEX last week and now have a Minnesota license. I'm trying to endorse it to North Carolina. The NC Board told me I'm not on NURSYS, I called NURSYS and they say I am. What do I do next? The endorsement person at the NC Board was not too helpful. I'm incredibly frustrated !

Did you actually pay the fee to Nursys so that they can release your information? Without doing that, not sure if it is still $30, they are not going to make it available to anyone.
They will not do it without the fee being paid.

Yes it still is $30.00 for NURSYS. If you are in Canada you must send a money order as if you do not have a SSN you cant do it online.

Thank you for the feedback and I will print off the application and send it. I received email number 10 today from them (NCBON) saying they have verified my registration on NURSYS. I thought getting the ATT, taking the NCLEX and completing everything for CGFNS was complicated - I think it was just the tip of the iceberg.....
Your help is much appreciated!

Greeting everyone,
Hi, my name is Maria. I'm a RN new grads from International School in Malaysia. I have passed my Board Exam and IELTS test, and I also have Visa Tourist which will expire in 2012. Now, I'm looking for options to work in United States.
I've had done some reading on this forum and need advise from you sisters. I would like to know which would be the best way to work in US. First, My aunt, who lives in US, asked me to apply NCLEX-RN in CA, and by the time I come to US, I can take the exam right away. Do you think it's possible? I confused about the fingerprints procedure. Should I take LiveScan in US or should I tell them to send HardCard to Malaysia?
I understand that they won't release my license even if I pass NCLEX due to Social Security. I also aware about massive lay-off that's currently happening in California, and that why my aunt told me that her company is willing to sponsor me once I have my license. From the letter that my aunt sent me, her company will sponsor people who have RN or CGFNS license, and they won't sponsor people who doesn't have a license. This is the part I get confused. "IF" I passed NCLEX, how can I get a RN license due to inavailability of SS number where the company itself required licensed nurse to work there (will not give sponsorship to non-licensed)? You know I mean? Maybe if you have any experience like this before, can you share it with me please?
Or should I apply for CGFNS exam, VISA Screen, and get the H2 Visa? The only problem that I have is that there's no CGFNS office available in Malaysia.
Any suggestion / help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much.
