Good Day!

I passed the Nursing Licensure Exam here in the Philippines. Right now I am planning to take the NCLEX Exam because I would like to work in the US also but since there is retrogression, I would like to know if there is a state in America wherein there is no expiration in the event I pass the NCLEX Exam? Because I've heard that in California, it is valid for 3 years, after that it will expire, is that true? Does it mean that I have to take it again? Since there are no available visa in going USA and working in the US could take quite long since I'm here in the Philippines. I've heard that in Vermont, there is no expiration. Is that true? Because I want to take the exam this time, and while waiting, I will work here first so that it will be an added experience for me.

It is not the exam that expires but your application to California that expires after 3 years and your file destroyed if you do not provide a SSN. This is one of the reasons why we do not recommend Ca as initial licensure. Please take the time to read this forum as much has already been written. Which state do you plan on working as they each have a different requirement for foreign trained nurse so although we do not recommend Ca for initial licensure it generally is better to register to state you want to work.

What is SSN? My file will be destroyed after 3 years in Ca?, so does it mean that I have to take the NCLEX again? Does it mean that if I pass the NCLEX and IELTS, I have to fly to US sooner or else my application will expire? Am I correct? Because my problem is the retrogression, it might took more years... How about in Vermont?

SSN is social security number and you will not get that until in the US with a valid work permit. If you have already applied to Ca then suggest you read this thead and it will explain what you need to doCalifornia for initial licensure If your file is destroyed before moving your results on (you can not endorse as Ca will not issue a license) then you will/may have to resit the exam again. As said before I suggest a good read in this forum or use the search facility and read about Ca

All licenses in the US have expiration dates, just like your license does with the PRC.

CA does not even issue a license without a SSN#, just a piece of paper stating that you have passed the exam.

Recommend that you take the time to do some reading on this forum, as well as consider going to another country to get some experience as you are looking at five years plus for a chance at a visa to work in the US, it is no longer an automatic thing. Too many from your country want the green card and there are not enough to go around.,

i am planning to apply for initial licensure in Vermont. But I really want to work in California, because my family is there, and my relatives might be able to find me an employer there. Can I endorse VT license to California immediately after acquiring it? I read in one thread that CA will give you 180 days for you to provide them your SS# until they give a permanent license, is that true? Please give me some advice.

There is a retrogression in place so it does not matter if you find an employer to petition you, the fact remains that you are looking at five years plus for a chance at a green card. There is no reason whatsoever to endorse the license until you are ready to use it. CA will only issue a temporary one for 180 days, and that is not renewable if you do not have the SSN#. Would highly recommend that you take the time to do some reading on this forum about what is going on at this time in terms of visas.

No sense in paying for something that you cannot use, it is just throwing out money.
