I don't know how much time is it going to take for them to arrive at a decision or look into my case when they have received the things that they requested. I hope it won't be another 8 months...

Thanks for the update. What was the RFE for? I wish you the best and quickest response. It is very hard to be patient waiting when there is a lot at stake in the decision that is made.

Hehe, you're welcome and thanks for wishing me well. Indeed, however, it is during these times that we really need to persevere, trust God completely and not fall into temptation of sinning.

I have not seen the actual RFE request but they said there were some things required of them by the USCIS(maybe proof of financial capability, etc.). They just told me to secure what was needed on my part to fulfill, PROOF OF COMPUTER LITERACY for MS WINDOWS, MS WORD, MS EXCEL, MS POWERPOINT and knowledge of the internet/internet browsing.

So to help others here, it would really be wise to enroll in computer courses, even if it's just a crash course/short course.

In today's modern digital age, it's not just enough to know nursing and be concerned with nursing updates but also have basic working knowledge of computers and updates on technology as well.

It may not be required for others, but it would not hurt to at least be prepared, learning from my experience(to prevent unnecessary delay).

Though the employer had shortcomings, I can not deny the fact that USCIS requested proof of computer literacy from me, an unforeseen requirement that I never expected being a nurse applying for an immigrant visa.

Good thing I was able to enroll in a summer computer course when I was still in high school.

I also requested the school where I finished nursing to provide a letter detailing course content(of the computer subject which is required of nursing students in my school) for the benefit of USCIS who may not be convinced of just the course title as seen in my TOR(transcript of records).

Hope my case would be approved soon so that it can be sent to the NVC(as in-between USCIS approval and NVC Receipt of the approved petition, there might be another "waiting or clearing time" like 2-3 months or more depending on how people at the these agencies can handle the pressure of their work.). From the NVC to the RP consulate, it would take more time again, hehe, because of document requirements and further processing, etc... Hope everything will be right on time, in God's time according to His will.

These trials help us to examine more ourselves, so that we can rise above the contradictions in life(in the world of materialism) and become better persons.

I did not understand your post clearly, could you please elaborate? Were you issued an RFE asking for proof of computer proficiency? I have never heard of this before. Thanks and all the best to you.

Hello lost_stranger! Yup, in short that was required of me(computer proficiency) while the employer had their own set of things that USCIS needed(that I don't know because I haven't seen the actual RFE, the employer just contacted me and asked me to provide such evidence). I too never heard of such request and I haven't seen it posted as a requirement for immigration of nurses in any of the my "immigration references" that is why I never saw it coming(had I only known earlier, I would have already prepared the documents beforehand). Hope other nurses, especially those in the TSC, would learn from my mistake.

Hmmm, maybe immigration lawyers/firms or immigration sites should be informed to include such a certificate in their websites so as to somehow prevent RFEs on the part of the nurse? Any volunteers? Hehe...

Never heard of it either. Do you have a copy of the RFE or your agency just said so. If this was really asked, then this is something new.

I'm asking them(employer) to submit me a copy of the RFE, I hope they'd send it to me soon. The employer just read to me what I needed to provide in the RFE. I heard from my authorized representative in the US that there were other things written in there that was required of the employer, maybe tax returns, etc...

Yup, something new indeed. I don't know if my case is just an isolated case/random case where they required the nurse to demonstrate knowledge of computers...

As I would say, it's better safe than sorry.

I have never heard of needing to prove computer proficiency either but as you stated the computer class was required in your nursing program and perhaps they were just following up that you met all required education requirements in your nursing program. From the sound of things there were other issues and maybe they just started getting a bit more picky when they started looking into your case. That would be a new one though. I would not know how these proficiencies could be proven if that becomes an issue. Although I have used WORD, EXCEL, POWER POINT ETC...I don't have documentation to prove that fact. I took a WORD class at work many years ago and have no idea of where I could prove such documentation but have used EXCEL (currently for a Statistics class I am taking) and POWER POINT in virtually every class I have taken in the last year. I am currently working on my post RN BSN program here in the US. But no US school I have ever heard of requires computer classes to be taken as part of their nursing program so it seems that would be an unusual expectation to require. But thank you for sharing your story.
