Survey: Fastest route to US RN license

For the benefit of foreign nurses who are just starting, I'd like to make a survey of foreign nurses who ACTUALLY possess a US RN license from any state.

Example:

BON: California
SSN: None
Application to sit for NCLEX: Jan. 4, 2005
Eligibility received: May 1, 2005
NCLEX: Aug 1, 2005 (passed)
License Received: Nov. 4, 2005

Just a question: why it took you more than one year after passing NCLEX to receive your license?

Simple......Immigration .....and I'm one of the lucky ones, some UK nurses have waited 2 years or more. The BON doesn't issue a license until you become resident legally, well that's the case for Florida, not sure about other States.

Because you need to be in the US to get the SSN. California does not issue you a license until you are in the US and given them a SSN#. All you get is a letter shtating that you passed the NCLEX exam and that you meet requirements for licensure pending you submitting a SSN# to them.

That is why there is a lag for receiving the license, you need to complete the immigraiton process to get it in most states.

The issue is noit who is the fastest, but where you really want to work. Trying to endorse to most states can actually be more time consuming and will take longer than going there for initial licensure. The only exception to this is CA, most of the others have specific requirements that need to be met.
