Re: still confused..

There are no English exams required for either of those states. English requirement is for the Visa Screen Certificate.

Thread moved to the International Forum, as it is not specific to the Philippines. Please take the time to read the stickies at the top of the International Forum, for information that you need.

Re: still confused..

Please be aware that if you are wishing to work in NY, it will only be in a nursing home, there are no hospitals that are petitioning from there.

Categorically speaking, if you need the interim permit which is time-limited(to be able to work while waiting for your nclex-rn exam results), both states require toefl.

Visascreen(VS) on the other hand offers more options for nurses regarding English exams and you're going to need one if you are not yet an immigrant or a US citizen, because visascreen is needed for immigration.

In addition, English is needed for VS if your nursing education(where you completed/graduate from)is not listed in the few English-exempt countries.

More about these can be found in the cgfns website and in the respective boards of nursing that you have mentioned.

If you'll need more info about interim permits, please do a search on the forum, or contact the respective state board of nursing. Thank you.

But the key thing that you are forgetting is that the NLE is required to even get the IP for CA, and NY requires that the CGFNS exam be completed first.

And, in order to get a visa to be able to work in the US, it requires that the nurse have passed either the CGFNS exam, or the NCLEX exam to get a visa. Both of the above mentioned states do not require the CGFNS exam, so why take it in the first place. And I am not aware of any hospital that is using a foreign nurse in the IP category......only nursing homes will. And you do not get the same salary until you pass the NCLEX exam.

Do not recommend going for the IP, it will not do you any good. Especially if you wish to work in a hospital. Waste of time and money, you will not be able to use it.

Thanks for the information ma'am Suzanne. Indeed, I missed that one out.
