I have signed a contract with a nursing home in chicago. Is it true that TOEFEL is the only english exam that is required in chicago? The english exam that i took was IELTS & passed it. Please provide me some other requirements aside from the english language exam. I have passed both the CGFNS and the NCLEX exams and I already have a visa screen. Thank you.

I came across the internet on the issue of what English language acceptable for Illinois Licensure. Under Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation it setforth that there are three (3) requirements for an Internationally Educated Nurse to obtain an "Illinois license",to wit:

1. CES Report (Credential Evaluation Report)
2. TOEFL (Test of English as Foreign Language)
3. NCLEX (National Council Licensure Exam.)
Under TOEFL, it clearly highlighted & emphasized the word "only" that TOEFL is the only English test acceptable for licensure in illinois & must achieve a passing minimum score of 550 or 213 on the TOEFL computer base exam. It was also emphasized that these requirements such as CES and TOEFL applies to all Internatinally Educated Nurses including those applying by endorsement,US Citizens and Visa Holders. CGFNS is no longer a requirement to obtain a license in the State of Illinois. Current Revision 08/16/05. I hope & fervently pray as a foreign nurse they will make a revision that IELTS is also acceptable in the State of Illinois in the near future. like you, i took and passed ielts. i also have my visa screen. Hu! Hu! Hu! i hope theyl consider ielts coz i dont want to take another english exam. if you have new info with this, please keep me posted. thanks ...

My agent told me that IELTS is now being accepted in Illinois

If you have passed IELTS, taking jus the TOEFL part of the exam is not an issue. That is only basic English, it is not the speaking part.

I passed ielts last feb 2006.
Can I have more info re this messsage.
What do you mean with this?
Does it mean I will just take a portion of Toefl iBT because I passed Ielts?And what part will it be?

This thread is a few years old and I have answered in your other post which I have also moved to the International forum. Regarding scores of exam you can look on CGFNS and they have a list on acceptable scores.

We also ask that you do not use text messaging, it makes it hard to read even for the Americans that are here. And we have many foreign nurses that also read here.

It is also very good practice to write with proper grammar and punctuation as you will be writing the exams to be able towork in the US.

The scores are the same for working in the US, and not just Illinois.
