hi.. just want to help..

i found this on the 2008 VisaScreen application handbook online:

Phone: 215.222.8454 • Fax: 215.662.0425 • Web: www.cgfns.org

also, just additional info:

Telephone Calls
The CGFNS/ICHP Customer Service Department provides applicant status information by telephone to applicants only.
CGFNS/ICHP will not release information by phone to anyone else unless a completed and signed “Authorization to Release
Information” form has been received from the applicant. If you wish to telephone CGFNS/ICHP, call our Customer Service
Department at (215) 349-8767. To save time, have your CGFNS/ICHP ID Number ready. If the Customer Service Representative is
unable to adequately verify your identity, information will not be released by telephone.
Phone lines are generally open Monday through Thursday between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time in the United
States), and 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The phone lines are not open evenings, weekends or on U.S. holidays. In an effort to
keep our costs to you at a minimum, CGFNS/ICHP will not accept collect telephone calls.
CGFNS/ICHP also has an Automated Voice Response telephone system that is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. By inputting
their identification number and date of birth, applicants can verify receipt of documentation and examination scores, confirm file
status, and access other information. Applicants can reach this system at (215) 599-6200.

Re: Questions for Suzanne4

Hi Suzanne. I would like to ask you what type of Visa must I tick on the ICHP Visascreen application? I am a BSN-RN intending to work in the US and hoping to bring my family with me when the opportunity arrives. I passed the IELTS and NCLEX last year.

Re: Questions for Suzanne4

Not sure what you are asking me for, the CGFNS and the NCLEX exams are for the US.

There have been several nurses from your country that have posted here about working there and they are already there.

Best of luck to you.

Help Please!!!

Im in such a big predicament. I graduated from the Philippines with a BSN but I didnt take the board exam over there. After graduation I went directly back to the states in Illinois where i live being an American citizen.

I sent all the materials for the CES report & they accepted everything but I wasnt aware that I needed to be licensed in my country of education in order for the Illinois board of Nursing to accept the CES report. So I flew all the way from the Philippines back to the states without taking the board exam. Here is the CGFNS explanation:

We have received materials for your Credentials Evaluation Service. However, we find that we still need the following additional information to make your file complete:

The name of your report recipient. Please be advised that Illinois Board of Nursing has decided that it will not accept CES Reports for applicants that were never licensed in their country of education.

If you wish to continue to be an applicant for the Credentials Evaluation Service (CES) than CGFNS will require that you submit a letter requesting a recipient other than the Illinois Board of Nursing.

What am I supposed to do? I tried calling other states' board of nursing like Michigan & Missouri since they're close by & I have relatives that live there but they say they also need a license from the applicant's country of education. So I called the California BON & they said that the license isnt required but I need to write an explanation why I didnt take the exam.

There is no way I can go back to the Philippines & take the board exam so I only have the choice of applying for licensure in another state unless I can get approval from Illinois.

If I must apply at a different state I will but are there any other states besides California where I can apply because I already paid for the CES Full Education Report which isn't required over in California. Second, if I pass the NCLEX in another state can i have reciprocity in Illinois?

I would appreciate any kind of help. Thanks.

Re: Questions for Suzanne4

Unfortunately, this is what is happening more and more. CA does the require the local license and have done so since January of this year. Do you hold dual citizenship in the Philippines, or only the US?

Reciprocity does not exist between licenses, only the NCLEX exam has that meaning that the results are valid in all 50 states as well as territories. But you need to meet the requirements for licensure in the state that you want.

Re: Questions for Suzanne4

Hi Suzanne. To answer your question I do hold dual citizenship in the Philippines but unfortunately there is no way I can take the board exam there since I am here in the states.

Also are you saying that California also requires the local board exam in the Philippines before I can apply for licensure? I called them yesterday and they told me that I just needed to send an application and a written explanation to them why I didnt take the exam there in the Philippines.

Will I ever be able to work in Illinois without taking the board exam in the Philippines?

Re: Questions for Suzanne4

Then you are going to be up a wall. Since you hold dual citizenship, then you can sit for that exam.

If you only held US citizenship, then possibly could get it waived, but with the dual, that is not going to be something that they are going to waive. Even CA does not waive based on that any longer, they did before, but not since January, even with a letter.

The person that answers the phone is not the one that makes the decisions on this. Just have a good look here at many other threads on this very same topic and all of the others are in the same boat as you. Does not matter what they said on the phone, just read threads on this site.

When CA requires it and no longer accepts a letter as to why it was not taken, then it means the others are going to be serious as well.

If CGFNS will not send out the CES since Illinois will no longer accept it without the local license, then there is no way that you are going to be able to work there.

You can try VT for initial licensure, but it is still up to IL for what they will accept and they are still going to ask for the CES for all that trained out of the US. They normally do not change requirements for endorsement, especially if you do not have experience here as an RN.

Not sure what else to tell you, but the fact that we are seeing more and more states require the local license now. I can add IL to my list.
