Being in the US with everything completed by the end of the year and ready to begin work, is going to be pushing it. Once the DS-230 is completed, then you still need to go thru medical clearance and the interview at the US Embassy in Israel. Not sure how their schedule is. In Manila, that wait for the interview has been averaging about four months just for that.

if not longer.
Hello Suzanne,
Thank you very much for response! The petition was filled on May 4 with Texas Service Center. Still I don't have the reciept number. I am going to work in NY City, and the only and the main thing I am waiting for is Green-Card. I was told by the advocate, that becouse from Israel the number of petitions is much smaller that from another countries it is big posibility that mine approval is going to be fast. Is it right?
If I get the USCIS approval, may I tell on the Israel's work place that I am going to leave soon, or I should wait for invitation to US Embassy. In other words, is it sure that I"ll get the Green-Card?
Thank you!

Still hope to be in USA on 12/31/2006

The only thing that will get done quicker is the actual time for you to get an interview with the US Embassy. The USCIS approval is only the first step in the process, that is the I-140. You still need to go thru the DS-230 for the third part, and then the medical and interviews.

If you do a review here on the International Forum, you will find posts by a few Israelis. The only thing that is usually faster is the time for the interview.

You have just started the procedure, you are not at the end of it. There is no way that I would tell a job about it yet. I do not expect you to be in the US and ready to work before sometime the beginning of next year. If even that soon. Average time is about one year before you are actually here.

Approval is done as they come in, not by the country that you are from. And approval is coming from one center, not like it used to be, things are different. You are also talking about permanent rsidency, not a temporary work permit.

NJ no longer requires the CGFNS exam, but they do require the CES.

The CVS for NY is different from the CES.

Dear Suzanne,
May be you ask yourself why he tells that (GC) is last thing, simply becouse after long 3 years of tonns of forms and very hard exams (CGFNS,NCLEX,IELTS) , interviews in hospitals, and a lot of money I can finelly to see the end of my story, even if it is going to take 1 year.
Thank you for helping, it is so important for as (preemigrants).

Re: Questions for Suzanne4

hi suzanne-if someone passes the NCLEX-rn exam in NY is she qualifed to work in New york. She has her RN license from overseas. and has passed the NCLEX exam. Can she come here the NY to work. Does she need a visa screen certificate? Or CGFNS? Is the NCLEX sufficient enough. How about the TOEFL? I just want to know the nursing requirements. I already know about the immigration paperwork. She will be applying for her immigrant visa.

Definitely, she needs visascreen certificate as well as Toefl. She can give the latest Toefl-IBT so she doesnt have to go via TSE and TWE. I dun think she needs CGFNS exam though. Just my 2 cents...

The green card is essentially the last step, but there is more than one step involved with that. Getting approval of the I-140 is just the first step in the final scheme of things.

Even once you get to the US, things are not finished. You will be given a visa in Israel to use until you actually get the green card, which is not usually issued until you arrive in the US. You also have to go in persin to apply for the SSN#, when you are in the US.

Tiem frame for when you will be in the US has nothing at all with how long that you have spent getting the exams done, or anything else like, that, even finding the employer. It all comes down to when the I-140 is finally submitted.

The license from overseas is not valid in the US and cannot be used in the US. Getting a license in the US, gives you a license to practice in that state in the US as an RN, but the key thing that you are missing is that it does not give permission from immigration to work in the US. You must have that before being able to legally work, and must possess a SSN# before starting to work.

NY does not have a language requirement, but US immigration does. And she does need a Visa Screen Certificate, that is required to be submitted at the time the employer submits the petition. Depending on the country that the nurse is from, she will need English exams more than likely.

Having a license to practice as an RN, doesn't give you legal permission to do so without the appropriate visa from immigration. You need both, not just one item to do that.

US Immigration requires either NCLEX-RN or the CGFNS exam, plus the series of English exams to be able to work in the US as an RN. If the nurse is applying for a green card on their own. If they are applying via fiance or spousal, then they do not need the English exams, and that is cuurently. Soem are trying to get that changed, nor do they need the VSC.
