Re: Questions for Suzanne4

Hi Suzanne,
I have been approached by a recruitment Agency called Kennedy Healthcare recruiting about assisting me to the usa. I asked all the right questions they said they recruit direct for hospitals, they pay my fees, exams, airfare, immigration. The contact of employment is with the employer direct Bergen Regional Medical Center, in New Jersey. The hospital contract is for 2 years and I will be paid what they called Prevailing wage, they will pay me in accordance with my 6 yearts nursing experience also. There is no crappy hours no money taken off my wages etc.
Part of me is keen in that I am concerned if I go through all the process and get my nclex I may struggle to find work. Also this company said if I find an employer direct I will have to pay my own immigration process and lawyer which can be hugely expensive.
what do you think? Do you think once I am licienced I will struggle to find my own employer to pertition for me, and really how much is it roughly going to cost? I have added up for moving, airfares, nclex, cgfns, paperwork, transcripts etc but never thought about the immigration costs.
I know you were the right person to contact about this.

Hi Suzanne
I am thinking of signing up with a reputable agency in NY, but I really would like to know your opinion on this matter. I do have concerns with regards to the contract. It was stated there that I have to agree to work any shift, including nights, holidays, weekends as requested, is that normal for an agency to do with nurses? Also, for the first year of employment, I will not get a vacation leave. The good thing about this agency is that they will spend for all the legal fees, the exams, trip to international testing site for NCLEX and oneway airfare to the US, and the recruiter told me that they will file my case immediately upon recieving the necessary documents for filing the petition. By the way, I am not so concerned with the salary even if starting pay would only be $26/hr for NY area as I have seen the salaries quoted in this site www.flcdatacenter.com for NY, so the agency is within reasonable limits. I would like to send you a copy of the contract so you can review it..i need your help on this matter. Thanks.

Hi Suzanne..again..hehe
Another question popped re: agencies. How is it possible for agencies to be making $10,000 a year on a nurse? (as what you have quoted on this forum)
I believe, that if a facility would hire a nurse on a temp contract, facility pays the agency approximately $40 per hour (NY area). In addition to that, if facility will hire on a permanent contract, agency will get at least 15-20% of the total yearly salary of the nurse which is paid by the facility ... so here, agency earns a lot from the nurse but for a foreign nurse sponsored by this agency, she doesnt really get affected because whether or not she gets hired directly she will still receive current hourly rate for nurses. I am saying this because, the way I undeerstand it, it would be beneficial to less priveleged foreign nurses to have an agency to shoulder exams and immigration fees. Conversely, doing all the work on your own would mean ...i dont really know how much you have to spend for all exams and immigration fees and airfare..but lets just say about $4000 off your own pocket..and well, getting the same salary with what the agency can offer. So in this light,a less priviledged foreign nurse would be better off with an agency. Your comment on this would be appreciated. I am looking to understand more on this so I can make a wise decision on whether to get an agency or not. Thank you so much and God bless.

Re: Questions for Suzanne4

Hello Suzanne!
I'm veru upset of dead line the NY BON gives. After 10 months of my case evaluation CGFNS finally sent to NY BON the approved issue of CVS NY on 5/8/06. And now my file went to the education review office on 5/8/06. That process at this time is taking 12 weeks. Is this supposed to be normal timing and does it mean that after this dead line I'll be sent the ATT?
Thanks in advance for reply.
