Re: Questions for Suzanne4

Hi suzzane,
I have a question. I just graduated from my nursing program as a LPN. I am on a H4 visa. I was browsing some jobs here in WA state. I told my situation to the employer that i dont have work permit. They said usually for LPN no employer would like to file petition for your work permit.

And DOH said, If i pass my Nclex, they will issue me a license for a year only. If i wont get my work permit within a year they will revoke my license.
i really dont understand what to do? should i go for my nclex and wait for a year to get work permit? or i should wait untill my husband gets his green card which i think its gonna take three years.

Yes, that is true. And even if you were to take it someplace else, unless you are doing them all of the time, you are not going to be proficient at it.

There is no reason to even consider this now as there is no facility that would hire you as the PICC nurse when you would first come to the US, just is not going to happen.

Not sure if you are understanding this, but you cannot get any type of visa to work with the LPN training, just is not going to happen. And the only way that you could have gotten the OPT, that would permit you to work for a year is if you were under the F-1 status when you attended school.

There is no way that you can legally work in the US with that training, it does not qualify for any type of visa that would permit one to work here. With the visa that you are on, there is no way for you to work here. And there is no permit available for you to work here.

You are going to need to have the RN as a minimum to be able to even be considered for a visa that would allow you to work, but then you also have to figure in the retrogression so you are looking at about five years for a chance at a visa.

There is no way for any employer to be able to help you with this as visas are issued by the US government and not the employer. And the US does not have a shortage of LPNs.

Sorry that you did not know this before you started your program, and that the school did not inform you either.

Re: Questions for Suzanne4

Dear Suzanne, I have a question regarding endorsement of my license from California to NY. I received NY State professional photo identification card application. Would you explain it to me, why do I need this after I've got the license number appeared on their web site?
And why there is expired period of three years?
Thank you very much for your help

To give you proof that you have a license there in that state. Depending on the state, there are still quite a few that have an actual hard license.

Licenses always expire, they are never for life. Not one state in the US has that, they all expire anywhere from two years to four years in normal situations. For some foreign nurses, it may be only a few months before it needs to be renewed if the state just does it every two years automatically and they get licensed just before the state renews all of them.

They require my driver license or non-driver ID number to get my photo, but I am still staying outside of USA and I don't have one... What should I do?

Just looked at their site again, there is still not direct mention of the CGFNS exam, only of a qualifying exam. And usually this is the local license in one's home country and nothing more than that.

You should just contact them to see what their latest take on this is.

There is nothing that you can do at the moment with this, so do not do anything. They just want further proof of you for the state. But you are not going to be working there for sometime, so nothing to do at this time.

Not sure why this was sent to you in the first place as most just get a hard license, so do not know if a new requirements of theirs specifically.
